Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have returned to Britain determined to build a new chapter for their family, but behind the scenes there is reportedly one person who is far from convinced that the experiment will last — Prince William. According to a new report, the future king does not believe his younger brother and Meghan will remain in the UK for very long, raising the uncomfortable possibility that he may already be predicting how this latest chapter ends.
A source claimed that William “doesn’t believe they’ll even last another six months,” a remarkably blunt assessment considering Harry and Meghan have made it clear that they want their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to have a stronger connection to Britain.
So the question now is simple: will William’s dire prediction actually come true?
William May Already Have His Answer
Harry and Meghan’s return has created a strange situation for the royal family because the Sussexes are not simply visiting Britain for a few days. Their children are attending school in the country, and the couple have described their plans as an “extended period” rather than a short visit.
But William has reportedly remained deeply skeptical.
That skepticism is not completely surprising given everything that has happened between the brothers. Harry and Meghan left Britain in 2020, built a new life in California and spent years publicly discussing their experiences within the royal family.
Now they are suddenly back.
For William, the question may not be whether Harry and Meghan say they want to stay, but whether life in Britain will actually work for them.
Harry And Meghan Have A Lot To Prove
There is an enormous difference between wanting to return home and successfully building a permanent life there.
Harry may want Archie and Lilibet to know Britain. Meghan may have professional opportunities in the UK. King Charles is reportedly pleased at the prospect of seeing more of his grandchildren. But the security dispute, the unresolved family tensions and the enormous media attention surrounding every move could make settling into British life far more complicated than simply unpacking their bags.
One source previously described William as having been less optimistic than his father about Harry and Meghan returning without reopening old wounds, claiming he is now having an “I told you so” moment.
That phrase says everything about the tension surrounding this move. William does not have to publicly attack Harry. He does not have to tell the world that he thinks the move will fail. If the report is accurate, he can simply wait.
The Six-Month Clock Is Now Ticking
This is what makes the reported prediction so interesting.
If Harry and Meghan remain in Britain beyond six months, William’s prediction starts looking increasingly questionable. If they return to California sooner than expected, however, the story becomes something very different.
Suddenly William would look like the brother who saw the outcome coming before everyone else.
And that could be especially uncomfortable for Harry.
Because Harry has spent years defending his decision to leave Britain, yet his return now appears to be an attempt to reclaim some part of the life he once walked away from. The couple have even maintained their California home, meaning Britain does not necessarily represent a complete break from America.
Will William Be Proven Right?
For now, there is no way to know. Harry and Meghan have made a serious commitment to Britain through their children’s schooling and their stated desire to spend more time there. But William’s reported skepticism raises the possibility that this could become another chapter in the brothers’ long-running battle — except this time, the argument will not be fought with words.
It will be settled by time. If Harry and Meghan are still happily established in Britain months from now, William’s reported prediction will look badly wrong.
But if the Sussexes find themselves back in California, the future king may quietly have the last word.
And perhaps that is the most uncomfortable part of all: William does not need to say “I told you so.” Harry and Meghan’s next move could say it for him.
