Even though Carmelo Anthony and his estranged wife, La La Anthony, have not been together since the Sara Smiri cheating allegation stemming from the viral yacht vacation pictures, it looks like the Power actress is still willing to stand up for her husband when it counts.
Talking to TMZ recently, La La was asked about the fact that Carmelo was not invited to join the national team in the FIBA World Cup, a question which many saw as incredibly charged and provocative.
However, La La simply responded with a question of her own, asking if there had ever been a better Team USA player before him.
She added that he should at least get a call out of respect, although she also wanted to make it clear that she was making no statements about Carmelo’s desire to play or not.
La La said: “Who was a better Team USA player than he was? Nobody. Out of respect, they should [call him]. I’m not saying he wants to play or he doesn’t want to play.”
Carmelo himself has not said much about the situation so far, although rumors indicate that he might be quite displeased with the attitude he has received regarding the FIBA World Cup.
Many of his fans agree with that stance as well, and there have been calls to reevaluate the decision to not include him.
So far though, it does not look like there is any chance of things swinging that way.
Carmelo seems to be moving on with his life too and has not commented on the matter, but his fans have a lot to say and asking that he gets a farewell tour like Heat’s Dwyane Wade received when he retired.
One person said: “Everyone needs to put some respect on Carmelo’s name. Melo had the deepest offensive bag I’ve ever seen. Never had a great team in Denver but I still remember he used to torch my Lakers. I’ve literally modeled my game after him, Demar, and Wade. I still use those pull-ups, fake spins, fades, everything.”
A sports fan revealed: “Still can’t believe Darko Milicic has a ring and Melo and CP3 don’t ?♂️I think he deserves another season. Why are we talking about a farewell tour, we should be talking about his comeback to the NBA.”
This backer of Melo shared: “If he can get signed by the Nuggets, he most definitely would get a farewell tour. I think he deserves one cause he won multiple basketball gold medals in Olympics for USA..but it has to be on the right team, either NY or Denver.”
Many NBA teams expressed an interest in signing the former New York Knicks star, but none of them made a final move.
