A recent scandal around a high school teacher from Illinois might end with serious repercussions for a 31-year-old Geneva woman named Lindsay P. Anderson after it came to light that she had taken advantage of two teenagers she was teaching, aged 14 and 15.
According to reports, Anderson not only had sex with the boys but also smoked marijuana with one of them beforehand.
She is being accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with the boys, as well as drugging one of them due to the marijuana incident.
She has reportedly pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault, according to recent reports, and might have to face a severe penalty for her actions.
The former Carpentersville Middle School teacher in Carpentersville, Illinois, could spend up to 22 years in prison and have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
Authorities have claimed that she specifically groomed her victims with drugs and gifts before having sex with both of them for two years.
She had sexual relationships with the boys between 2013 and May 2015. An investigation was launched around that time on the suspicions brought up by the mother of one of the boys.
The mom had noticed that Anderson used to buy her son gifts and bring him home after football practice although he had already graduated from middle school.
The boy then started to cooperate with the authorities, and this forced Anderson to come clean about the things that she had done.
The woman had been specifically accused of exploiting her position as a teacher to gain their trust and using the power dynamics in the situation in her favor.
Authorities have pointed out that she knew exactly what she was doing, being a teacher, and there does not seem to be any sympathy about her situation from any side at the moment.
Anderson had reportedly also molested one of her victims in the parking lot of a movie theater, though specific details are yet to be released. She was also a Dundee-Crown High School coach and worked at Community Unit District 300 until September 2014.
Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon revealed: “Ms. Anderson leveraged her position as a teacher to gain these victims. As a teacher, she was in a position of authority and clearly knew that what she did was wrong and harmful to these children.”
Many people have taken to the Internet to express their disappointment with the situation, agreeing with the prison sentence currently faced by the woman.
The sentencing is set for December 6.
