Kara Young, the biracial ex-girlfriend of former President Donald Trump, is speaking out for the first time since 2017.
The 47-year-old model dated the real estate mogul for two years in the late 1990s. She is grabbing headlines after she confirmed an old rumor about Mr. Trump.
In an interview with Deborah Norville for Inside Edition, Young gives some insights about her time with the man who would later become president of the United States of America.
Young’s relationship with Trump resurfaced in the press earlier this year after New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman covered it in her new book, Confidence Man The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America.
In her book, Haberman said that Trump told Young that she got her intelligence “from her dad, the white side,” after meeting her mother. The inappropriate joke did not land well with Young.
The model is the one telling her story now and putting things in the right context. Most outlets did not report the part about Trump insisting that she got the “beauty from her mother.”
After confirming the story, she added: “It sounds – when someone says something in jest – are they kidding? I don’t know.” The then-couple did not “fight or anything like that.” However, she did let him know that “it’s not funny.”
The former reality TV star did not insist and replied: “I was just joking, I was just kidding. No, I don’t think that.”
So, how did she end up dating the businessman? She explained: “I didn’t think I was going to like him because he wasn’t my type. I didn’t think he was my type, but it just ends up happening. I know it’s hard to believe, he’s very funny, and he had a really good personality.”
Young said she last spoke to him after he won the election against Hillary Clinton in 2016. She did reach out to congratulate him. However, she has no plans to ever address the topic again in the future.
While she does not think that Trump should run again in 2024, she believes he will eventually do it. Trump, who has a long history of making controversial comments, has spent a lot of time defending himself against being called a racist person.
In 2017, Young was one of the people who defended him. She told the New York Times: “I never heard him say a disparaging comment towards any race of people.”
Trump and Young started dating after his divorce from Marla Maples in 1997. The split was amicable because she said the relationship just “ran its course.”
The politician married his current wife, Melania Trump, in 2005.
