Mike Pence has decided to repair his complicated relationship with his former boss.
However, one leak, which revealed Pence’s secret meeting with Kamala Harris, has caused a setback in his efforts to reconcile with Trump.
There was once a real bromance between Pence and Trump. The former reality star appreciated that his vice president carried the water for him, understood the language of evangelicals, and defended his most controversial politics and actions while in office.
However, on January 6, Trump turned on Pence during the attack on the US Capitol when the former governor of Indiana refused to fight against the certification of the election results that declared Joe Biden the new president. Trump left him in a situation where he could have been badly injured or even killed by the mob.
The relationship further soured when Mike Pence decided to run for president against Trump.
Adding insult to injury, Pence refused to endorse Trump once he dropped out of the race. However, Pence tried to show decorum by acknowledging Donald and Melania Trump when they all attended Jimmy Carter‘s funeral.
Mike Pence’s wife, Karen Pence, showed disdain for the real estate mogul and first lady by refusing to look at them or shake their hands.
Continuing his desire to put the country above his ego, Pence, without his wife, was present at Trump’s inauguration. All indicated that a detente between the two politicians would take place.
However, CBS News poured salt into the bleeding wound with a jaw-dropping revelation: While in the White House, Mike Pence contacted Kamala Harris for a private meeting behind Trump’s back.
CBS shared an article explaining that JD Vance and his wife, Usha, were chagrined by Kamala Harris’s decision not to extend an invitation for a formal sit-down or tour of the Naval Observatory residence before they moved in.
Sources told the news outlet: “Via intermediaries, Usha Vance contacted staff for the home’s current occupants, Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, seeking details, including what they would need to childproof it. Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel Vance are all under eight. A Harris political appointee initially rebuffed the questions.”
Sources close to Harris defended her decision not to offer Vance, who repeatedly called her trash during the campaign, and his family a tour because Trump and Pence did not extend that courtesy to her and Douglas Emhoff.
The aides said: “But people close to Harris say she was never allowed to visit the home before she was sworn in in 2021. However, she took office during the COVID outbreak, just after the Capitol riot — and Donald Trump had refused to admit he had been defeated in the election.”
However, Pence’s staff said they secretly invited Harris and her family to the vice president’s residence without Trump’s knowledge and approval.
CBS reports: “Advisers to then-Vice President Mike Pence dispute that an invitation was never offered. They say he quietly gave Harris and Emhoff a chance to visit in the waning days of the Trump administration. The invitation came discreetly because Trump resisted accommodating the incoming administration. Democratic and Republican sources said no formal sit-down between Pence and Harris occurred.”
Talking to CBS, people close to Vice President Harris defended her decision not to invite Vance to visit, insisting that it was “a tradition broken during the Trump-Pence administration.”
Regardless of what really happened, Trump will not be happy about it.
