The former vice president pulled no punches when describing her interactions with former President Joe Biden.

In the best-selling memoir, Kamala Harris explained how Joe Biden pulled an unexplainable and below-the-belt move just minutes before the biggest and most important moment in her political career.

While preparing in her Philadelphia hotel room for the debate against Trump, which followed months of public criticism from him, Kamala Harris received an unexpected phone call from Joe Biden just moments before she was due to take the stage.

Harris initially assumed that, because Biden’s call came shortly before the debate began, his intention was to wish her luck and perhaps offer advice on how to handle her opponent.

Kamala Harris quickly discovered that Biden had called for a more personal, ego-driven reason.

Biden wanted to vent and get some things off his chest regarding petty rumors and gossip that he heard from a third party.

Harris claimed that, so close to her going on stage, she was dumbfounded and upset by Biden’s decision to bring up such matters minutes before such an important debate.

According to the book, he told her, “My brother called. He’s been talking to a group of real power brokers in Philly.” He offered several names and asked if Harris was familiar with them. She did not.

Harris writes: “Then he got to his point. His brother had told him that those guys were not going to support me because I’d been saying bad things about him. He wasn’t inclined to believe it, he claimed, but he thought I should know in case my team had been encouraging me to put daylight between the two of us.”

Biden went on an unexpected rant about his first stellar debate performance and the second that led to his political downfall.

The former vice president continued: “Joe then rattled on about his own former debate performances. ‘I beat him the other time; I wasn’t feeling well in that last one.’ He continued to insist that his debate performance hadn’t hurt him much with the electorate. I was barely listening.”

Harris explained the severity of Biden’s actions by writing that “the debate against Trump would be like a big prizefight, with huge consequences for America and the world, and I needed to be at the top of my game.”

She writes of Biden: “I just couldn’t understand why he would call me, right now, and make it all about himself. Distracting me with worry about hostile power-brokers in the biggest city of the most important state.”

Her husband, Doug Emhoff, “could see how angry and disappointed I was. ‘Let it go,’ he said. He knew I had to redirect my focus. ‘Don’t worry about him. You’re dealing with Trump. Let it go.’”

The campaign memoir has sold a remarkable 350,000 copies across all formats in its first week, putting it on track to be the best-selling memoir of 2025. Harris has also revealed that she is keeping her options open for a third presidential run in 2028.
