Melania Trump Announces Safe Return Of Displaced Children Amid Russia-Ukraine

Melania Trump is making it clear that during her second time as first lady of the United States, she has accomplished many significant things. She believes she may have achieved something her husband, Donald Trump, could not.

Melania Trump is loudly letting the media and the world know that she has played an important role in at least slowing down some of the damage caused by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

And, if she can, she might as well vie for the biggest award her husband has been eyeing and begging for: the Nobel Peace Prize. This effort has generated both support from backers and heavy skepticism from critics.

Meanwhile, others laughed and cringed at the thought of Mrs. Trump receiving such a prestigious honor, but were forced to recall the wild and bizarre things they have seen since the Trumps entered politics and the White House.

Melania Trump Seeks Attention And Recognition For Humanitarian Efforts

This month, Melania Trump made her efforts public by announcing that progress has been made in her mission at a press conference. At the podium, Melania, wearing a black suit and perfect makeup, flawless hair, announced that she had helped return children, displaced during the war, back to their Ukrainian families — something Donald Trump has not done.

During her speech, she explained that eight children had been reunited with their families.

Melania Trump’s Open Channel With Russian President Vladimir Putin

The first lady said, “Russian President Vladimir Putin and I have had an open channel of communication since writing him a letter in August about the impact of the war in Ukraine on kids. …eight children were all returned to their families over the last 24 hours, with a commitment that the two sides will continue to work toward reunifying additional children displaced as part of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

She added, “This remains an ongoing effort. Plans are already underway to reunify more children in the immediate future. I hope peace will come soon. It can begin with our children.”

Children’s Return Announced During Nobel Peace Prize Week

Many found the timing of the announcement suspicious for many reasons. Melania Trump’s big White House speech took place during the same time as the Nobel Peace Prize announcement.

Some critics believed that the former glamour model and businesswoman was highlighting her efforts to support scared and traumatized children for the spotlight. The author clearly believes she deserves praise for doing God’s work.

During a failed sit-down with Putin, President Trump dropped the bombshell news of Melania Trump’s involvement in efforts to return displaced children.

Donald Trump urged the Russian president to return the more than 35,000 children to their Ukrainian families. Putin, of course, refused to meet Trump’s request.

Some critics interpret Melania‘s recent actions as attempts to demonstrate that she has outperformed previous first ladies, such as Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and Jill Biden, in the realm of in-office accomplishments.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Ambiguous Response

However, like many things involving the Trumps, the celebration was short-lived. Melania was quickly brought back down to reality when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while at the White House with Donald Trump, reportedly refused to answer any specific questions about the eight children who were returned or the letter the first lady sent to Putin.

CNN revealed: “Seated across the table in the White House Cabinet Room, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky did not try to correct his counterpart, nor did he answer a reporter’s question about whether he appreciated the American first lady’s efforts. Instead, he turned, cocked his head and silently nodded.”

Trump Administration Cuts Funding To War Crimes Watchdog

Melania Trump’s efforts and her husband’s actions are contradictory. As Melania Trump is boasting about saving Ukrainian children, Donald Trump’s administration has made the decision to cut funding to a “leading organization that tracks evidence of Russian war crimes, including the forced relocation of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children,” according to CNN.

Some observers and analysts, along with Ukrainian officials and many doing the work in torn Ukraine, have suggested that Vladimir Putin may be using Melania’s involvement for public relations purposes, allowing the return of a small number of children to present a more favorable image amid ongoing concerns about the broader situation involving Ukrainian children.

According to a September report from the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab, thousands of innocent Ukrainian children have been kidnapped and taken to 210 pro-Russian re-education camps where they are brainwashed and mistreated in order to erase their Ukrainian identity and culture.

They are also forcibly placed in military training located on Russian-held territory to become fighters, according to the report.

Nathaniel Raymond, executive director of the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab said: “Everyone is moving very carefully, but everyone is clear on the point that the first lady’s office needs to hear: Thank you — but it is 35,000 kids, not seven or eight. It is kids who were taken as a war crime and kids who are being militarized and were abducted by a state, not lost in the war. Language matters.”

Yale Humanitarian Research Lab is now relying on donations to operate the Ukraine Conflict Observatory. The Donald Trump administration cut its funding, and of course, Melania Trump stayed silent.

Bill Taylor, a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, weighed in on the matter, saying that Melania Trump’s personal involvement is beneficial, but it is also problematic because it will be exploited by Putin.

He said: “Every returned child is wonderful for that family and that child, so that is good. But there are more than 19,000 of these, and I do think that Putin is cynically using this in an attempt to make the Trumps more sympathetic to him.”

Mr. Trump has had his eyes on the Nobel Peace Prize for a long time. His nemesis, former President Barack Obama received it in 2009.
