King Charles has a message for the heir to the British throne, Prince William.
It was the most subtle yet direct and regal way for King Charles III to reclaim power and authority. As the year wrapped up, His Majesty made an unprecedented move to redefine his power as the monarch and patriarch of the Royal Family.
His Majesty took drastic measures to quiet the headlines and leaks claiming that Prince William was more or less King because his father, at the age of 77, was battling cancer.
The Daily Beast and the Daily Mail reported that all major decisions were actually being taken by the heir, Prince William.
Sources stated that Prince William was the face of the monarchy; he was the one traveling abroad and was the real force behind major decisions, including finally pushing Prince Andrew to relinquish his titles and acting as the mastermind behind the eviction of his uncle from Royal Lodge.
Prince William’s Presumptive Plans For The Throne
Adding insult to injury, many media outlets claimed that Prince William had already laid out the plans for his coronation and reign. Prince William reportedly decided not to invite Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, or Princess Lilibet to his coronation. He was not even certain that Prince Harry would be present for King Charles’s funeral.
Sources close to Prince William confirmed that the future King would further slim down the monarchy to a skeletal level, holding only his wife, Kate Middleton, and their three children. These reports from reliable sources were, of course, too much for His Majesty, who made the unprecedented move to clear the air about his health and his reign, confirming that he is still in charge and everyone will abide by his rules.
A “Slap Down” For The Heir Apparent
According to the Daily Mail’s Richard Kay, King Charles gave a speech to dismantle the “quiet coup,” silence the noise suggesting he was no longer in control, and “slap” the heir.
King Charles said during the speech: “I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year.”
The Mail’s senior editor-at-large said in a recent Palace Confidential episode that His Majesty wanted to send a clear message to the critics who believed he could no longer do his job because of his age and illness.
Kay told the program: “There’s been a lot of chatter around the Royal Family and the monarchy over the last few months. People are speculating about what kind of monarch Prince William is going to be and what kind of changes he might be introducing when he gets his opportunity. It was just a little reminder from the King saying: ‘Hello, I’m still here. I’m not going anywhere. And while I’m King, we’re going to do it my way.’ I think that might just slap down one or two people who have been a little forward in their views.”

The reporter went on to say that the speech was a “wonderful bulletin” about the King’s health battle and a “very uplifting, encouraging holiday message” that will push others to get tested while he asserts his authority.
It was a complicated year for His Majesty and his heir, with Vanity Fair and The Daily Beast confirming that Prince William was frustrated by his father’s embrace of Prince Harry after all the accusations and revelations.
Prince William is also extremely unhappy with the King’s dithering over the Andrew scandal. As for King Charles, he was said to be livid at the claims that Kate Middleton and Prince William were the “work-shy” members of the Royal Family.
