For Haylie Duff and fiancé Matt Rosenberg, April Fools’ Day did not end in laughter this year.
In a move that has shocked fans of the long-standing couple, a representative has confirmed that the duo has ended their nearly 14-year relationship.
The couple, who famously announced their engagement on April Fools’ Day in 2014, have decided to go their separate ways. A representative for Duff, 41, told PEOPLE: “Duff and Rosenberg ended their relationship around the first of the year. She asks for privacy at this time in protection of her young daughters.”
The former couple shares two daughters, Ryan Ava Erhard, 10, and Lulu Gray, 7. While the split is only now becoming public, the “radio silence” between the two reportedly began in January.
A Love Story That Ran Out Of Time
In previous interviews, Haylie showered her man with love, explaining how they kept the romance going despite never walking down the aisle.
In a sit-down with PEOPLE, Duff stated: “We talk about it and think, ‘Maybe now we’re ready to do it,’ and then life happens and toddler happens… We feel married already and it hasn’t become something that both of us are gung-ho about.”
Rosenberg often echoed this sentiment, praising Haylie’s transition into motherhood. Shortly after their engagement, Duff shared: “When he became close with my family, and I saw how simpatico everybody was, that’s when I was like, ‘Okay, so not only do I love him, but they love him too.’”
The Sibling Feud: Toxic Mom Groups and Estrangement
However, the split comes amid high tension between Haylie and her sister, Hilary Duff. The two are currently estranged, feuding online after a “bombshell” scandal involving a celebrity mom group.
The drama erupted when actress Ashley Tisdale published an essay in The Cut exposing a “toxic” group of mothers who allegedly “froze her out.”
While no names were initially dropped, the internet quickly identified the famous and feuding group as including Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor.
Hilary’s husband, Matthew Koma, fueled the fire by calling the essay “tone deaf.” In a brutal twist, Haylie made it clear that she had sided with Tisdale, publicly “liking” the posts and hosting playdates with Ashley while remaining silent toward her own sister.
Regarding the heartbreak of this estrangement, Hilary Duff claimed on CBS Mornings: “Absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment… My sister and I don’t speak. I hope it’s not forever, but it’s for right now.”

The sibling divide has become so severe that it inspired Hilary’s latest song, “We Don’t Talk.” In the lyrics, Hilary alleges that Haylie is the one holding out on a reconciliation.
Hilary stated via the On Purpose podcast: “As painful as it feels to share, when I decided to make this record, I could only talk about the things that I’ve gone through.”
