The political world is turning its focus to Washington following shocking revelations about the inner workings of the White House.
A blockbuster new book titled Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, authored by prominent New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, has cracked open one of the administration’s most tightly guarded secrets: the president’s true physical fitness.
According to first-hand accounts from reporters and rogue aides, the White House goes to extreme lengths to project an image of absolute strength, hiding Donald Trump’s slew of health issues from the public.
For years, critics and people with working eyes have pointed to visible signs of physical deterioration, noting instances where the president slurs his words, shuffles down steps, and sleeps in meetings while dealing with rashes on his neck, bruised hands, and swollen ankles.
Yet behind the scenes, any discussion of these physical limitations is met with fierce resistance from the president himself, who raged on Truth Social that it was all fake news fabricated by the left.
The Medical Lockbox Swept Under Extreme Secrecy
The authors reveal that Donald Trump, who spent years rediculing her predecessor Joe Biden for getting old, is now in an even worse situation.
Trump treats his medical files like a state secret, viewing any physical vulnerability as an absolute disaster. White House journalists have frequently run up against an impenetrable wall of secrecy, protected by Vice President JD Vance, press secretary Karoline Leavitt, and family members, when trying to verify official medical reports.
Co-author Maggie Haberman laid bare the president’s deep-seated psychological aversion to admitting any kind of physical vulnerability during an interview with The Guardian.
“His health has always been a very specific lockbox for him, going back decades,” Haberman stated. “Illness freaks him out; he perceives illness as weakness, usually, and he certainly perceives any sense that he is having an issue as a projection of weakness, and his advisers are very, very attuned to that.”
Due to this intense internal pressure, the circle of individuals with actual insight into the president’s condition has shrunk to barely a handful.
The administration has systematically phased out transparent updates, instead dumping vague, grandiose claims about his medical visits, often on Fridays, hoping they will not get too much media coverage.
“So the number of people who actually know what is happening with his health … They’ve provided less and less information, except for saying things like, ‘He saw 22 specialists,’ but they won’t say who the specialists are at Walter Reed,” the CNN political analyst revealed. “Frankly, 2018, I think, was the last time we got real information.”
The Illusion Of Ultimate Presidential Transparency
While the 80-year-old president frequently boasts to the media and close friends about his unrivaled stamina and unmatched and spectacular mental abilities, his closest aides operate in a constant state of damage control.
Behind closed doors, the atmosphere is described as chaotic, with aides routinely managing the fallout from late-night social media blitzes that leave the commander-in-chief requiring extensive daytime sleep-ins.
Co-author Jonathan Swan completely dismissed the White House’s public messaging on transparency, exposing the extreme difficulties journalists face in reporting on the insular administration.
“There’s a reason that there hasn’t been a ton of inside-the-room reporting since last year,” Swan stated. “It’s because it’s really fucking hard. This is a tiny group of people running the government, and there’s this canard that Trump puts out that, ‘I’m the most transparent president ever.’ It’s complete nonsense.”
While official medical memos continue to insist that the president has robust cardiac function and sharp neurological function, Regime Change reveals that the reality is shrouded in projection, leaving the public to parse carefully staged media plays to guess the truth about the president’s health.
Melania Trump has long understood the power of a symbolic show of support, but amid this latest health firestorm, the first lady has remained conspicuously absent.
Jill Biden had a very different approach.
