Nicki Minaj, the self-proclaimed queen of hip-hop music, is getting involved in politics with more clarity than before.
The Young Money rap star is endorsing Gov. Andrew Cuomo in his primary race against Cynthia Nixon for the Democratic nomination.
The election is taking place Thursday, and the popular incumbent is seeking a third term, while Nixon made a name for herself as one of the stars of Sex and the City. This is her first foray into politics.
Although Nixon is a celebrity like President Donald Trump, her politics are closer to those of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
The race against Cuomo will give experts an idea where the Democratic electorate is heading for the midterms and 2020 presidential election. Cuomo is a centrist with some liberal accomplishments like gay marriage.

The “Chun-Li” diva wrote on social media Wednesday: “New Yorkers & all NYCHA residents its time to get JUSTICE, VOTE Thur. Sept. 13 for Gov. Cuomo, Lt. Gov. Hochul & Tish James. They know how to work for the people to make NY even GREATER. Spread the word. See you at the Polls.”
Lis Smith, who works for Cuomo, jumped on the endorsement and thanked the music superstar. She stated: “We’re thrilled to have the endorsement of the undisputed queen of hip-hop. As Nicki would say, Andrew Cuomo looks like yes, and Cynthia Nixon looks like no.”
T.I., who cannot vote in New York because he lives in Georgia, has backed Nixon because of her views on marijuana and justice reform.
Another major celeb Sean “Diddy” Combs has decided to skip the fight for governor and chose to just endorse Letitia A. “Tish” James who is running for attorney General in The Empire State.
The Bad Boy mogul wrote: “Tish James has a chance to be the first women (sic) of color to be New York Attorney General. She’s from New York and understands what’s going on in our communities.”
Zephyr Teachout, who is also running for Attorney General, has reached out to Minaj’s nemesis, Cardi B, for an endorsement Wednesday.
The politician revealed: “I was in awe of @iamcardib dancing and performing while seven months pregnant at Coachella. Pregnancy is not a handicap. Motherhood should not be a barrier to success.”
It is unlikely that Cardi will come out for Teachout this late in the game.
