Anthony Crawford has been arrested for the brutal murder of Wendy Martinez, who was stabbed several times while jogging in Washington D.C. earlier this week.
According to the police, the killing of Miss Martinez at the hands of Anthony Marquell Crawford was a random act of violence.
It was previously believed to be a robbery gone wrong, and some say Crawford might have been involved in gangs.
Crawford, 23, who has been charged with first-degree murder, has refused to cooperate with to the authorities.
Martinez’s murderer had cocaine on him and has a lengthy criminal record, according to Metro Police.
Crawford appeared in front of a judge, and he was denied bail because of the nature of the vicious killing.
Prosecutors revealed that Crawford stabbed Martinez seven times while high on cocaine as she was jogging near Logan Circle on 11th Street NW.
Two brief videos surfaced after the brutal murder showing Crawford casually walking on a sidewalk in a mustard shirt after attacking and killing Martinez.
In another video, Martinez, who was bleeding from the neck, ran to a nearby restaurant seeking help.
The brave woman collapsed as a handful of people including the restaurant’s manager rushed to help her in vain.
Martinez’s relatives said she got engaged last week to Daniel Hincapie and was eager to get married.
In a statement that was released by the family after the stabbing, they praised her for a being a woman of faith and added: “Everything you hope that a daughter and a friend could be. She was also excited to be planning her upcoming wedding to her fiancé, Daniel Hincapie. They were engaged just last week. We ask that you respect our privacy as we grieve the passing of her beautiful soul and inform her friends and family of this terrible news. The mother of the 35-year-old murder victim, Cora Martinez, says that the family plans to bury her in the red wedding dress that she had picked for her wedding.
The grieving mom has also said that she has forgiven the suspect and she is urging everyone to do the same.
