Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s second husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, has been forced to shut down his Instagram account and Facebook page after President Donald Trump claimed that he is actually her brother.
This week, President Trump decided to attack Omar several times via social media and while giving speeches at political events.
While talking to reporters, Trump repeated the rumor that has been going around for several years now that Elmi, who is Omar’s second husband, is her brother.
The newly-elected congresswoman has had a complicated marital history. Omar was at one point married to her first husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, with whom she shares two children and Elmi.
The Democratic congresswoman wed Elmi, a British fashionista, in a legal ceremony in Minnesota in 2009 and they divorced in 2017.
It has been revealed that all three — Omar, Elmi, and Hirsi lived together in Fargo at some point.
Omar and Elmi studied at North Dakota State University. In 2011, Elmi and Omar ended their romance and he moved to London.
Very soon after Omar and her first husband Hirsi got back together. In 2012, Hirsi and Omar had their third child together.
Elmi was very active on social media, posting pictures with his “nieces” and partying with friends while in London and vacationing in Kenya.
Omar said she did not marry her brother in a statement that read: “Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive.”
However, Trump decided to pour more gas on the fire by saying this on the allegations after reporter Emerald Robinson asked: “if the administration was looking into possible immigration fraud committed by Ilhan Omar for possibly marrying her brother.”
Trump responded: “Well, there’s a lot of talk about the fact that she was married to her brother. I know nothing about it. I hear she was married to her brother. You’re asking me a question about it. I don’t know, but I’m sure there’s somebody who will be looking at that.”
Elmi, who resides in England, has not commented on the drama. It is believed that he works as a public relations assistant and is also a fashion blogger which makes it possible for him to travel all over the world.
