No more hiding for Melania Trump, who has surprisingly decided to ramp up her public appearances in the last weeks of 2023.
The woman, who has voters in Iowa putting up “missing” and “Where is Melania Trump?” posters, made a fashionable and controversial return to the public eye at Roselyn Carter‘s funeral, where she grabbed headlines for her wardrobe choice.
Less than a week later, it was announced that Donald Trump‘s wife is set to deliver a speech at an upcoming event hosted by the National Archives.
The former first lady will be delivering remarks at an immigrant naturalization ceremony on December 15. At first glance, the event seems fitting for the former first lady, who was born in Slovenia and became an American citizen in 2006.
Mrs. Trump’s spokesperson said: “As a naturalized citizen herself, Mrs. Trump looks forward to telling her story and being part of this momentous occasion for these new American citizens.”
However, like almost everything involving the Trump family, the businesswoman’s speech has been tied to controversies and scandals.
It has been confirmed, via CNN, that the National Archives and Records Administration will be hosting the affair. Indeed, the National Archives and Donald Trump have a very thorny history.
In 2022, the agency requested that Donald Trump be investigated by the Department of Justice for mishandling White House records.
The investigation led to the former president “pleading not guilty to 37 federal charges brought by special counsel Jack Smith over his alleged mishandling of classified documents.”
Melania Trump’s decision to all of a sudden share her immigrant story has spilled a lot of ink. Some find the former model’s acceptance of the gig baffling because of Donald Trump’s tough stance on immigration.
The former president launched his campaign by calling immigrants drug dealers and rapists. During his four years in the White House, he pushed strict immigration policies, banning some Muslims from entering the country at some point.
Trump has even revealed that he is against the “chain migration” immigration process that Melania Trump used for herself and her parents.
The move by Mrs. Trump to work with the agency is believed to be proof that she is finally breaking away from her husband’s fiery rhetoric and signature policies toward immigrants.
Others say it is just another business move; the National Archives paid her a massive amount, and she was happy to come out and talk about her immigrant journey for the highest bidder.
Her former best friend and employee has another theory on appearance. Taking to social media, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Melania Trump’s former adviser, called her a hypocrite and said it was yet another distraction.
She claimed: “The hypocrisy of Melania Trump hosting a naturalization event at the National Archives (where Donald is under investigation) is right up there with her so-called Be Best anti-bullying platform (where Donald is Bully #1).”
The author of Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady added: “Melania is a vessel of complicity & distraction trying to create a stark contrast from their reality. Trump’s ‘actions’ contradict their so-called ‘beliefs and values.’ As a mother and wife and someone who cares deeply about our democracy and American values, I know Melania Trump, and she doesn’t care about the US.”
Melania Trump seems ready to grab headlines on her own in 2024.
