The 2026 midterm cycle has officially launched a high-stakes proxy war in the southern state of Georgia. With former President Joe Biden’s first post-presidency endorsement and a President Donald Trump-backed candidate in the mix, the Peach State is becoming the ultimate battleground for the soul of both parties.
This collision comes as the sitting president’s approval numbers hit a historic second-term low of 34% amidst a “costly and deadly conflict of choice” in Iran that has led to pump prices surging 42% since the war began.
Trump’s economic stewardship is under fire, as a new poll reveals that nearly 70% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the cost of living.
Trump is also managing many self-inflicted wounds, including a bruising tariff war and a scandal-plagued administration, not to mention a stinging Supreme Court defeat and the ongoing disaster caused by the newly released Jeffrey Epstein files.
Joe Biden: The Endorsement Of A “Battle-Tested” Leader
In a video released this month, the former president broke his political silence to back Keisha Lance Bottoms, emphasizing her resilience during her time as Atlanta’s mayor.
Biden is effectively returning the favor; the popular, “no BS” Democrat was one the first Black elected officials to publicly voice her support when Biden ran in 2020, even as the Democratic establishment, including Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, remained more than hesitant.
The White House Connection
Bottoms did not just support Biden on the trail; she became a core pillar of his executive team. After making the surprise decision not to run for reelection as mayor in 2021, she joined the Biden administration as a senior advisor and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement.
In this role, she served as the primary bridge between the president and state and local leaders, as well as advocacy groups across the nation.
Regarding her performance in the West Wing, Biden had the following to say about Bottoms, “Those same qualities that made her a great mayor made her invaluable to our administration: smart, focused, and someone who gets things done.”
Biden praised the former mayor, saying in the clip: “As mayor of Atlanta, Keisha faced every challenge a leader could face, and then some: a global pandemic, a major cyberattack on the city system, economic uncertainty that tested every community across Georgia.”
He then talked about her move to the federal level, saying her character was not altered by the pressures of Washington. Former President Biden explained that he admires her “steady, thoughtful leadership,” and the former vice president went on to share: “Those same qualities that made her a great mayor made her invaluable to our administration, smart, focused, gets things done.”
Biden concluded the video with a direct call to action for Georgia voters, expressing total confidence in her candidacy. Biden made it clear that he believes she is ready to lead the state on day one.
He stated, “Georgia, she’s ready. She’s been ready. Now I’m proud to be in her corner, just like she was in mine. Let’s get this thing done.”
The GOP Civil War: Trump’s “Warrior” vs. The Field
The Democratic winner is likely to face either businessman Rick Jackson or Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, the candidate backed by the current administration. The two are in a near dead-heat, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll released this month.
Trump has made it clear that Jones is his hand-picked successor for the state. During a recent campaign stop, Trump claimed, “This gentleman, I’ll tell you what, he’s been something very special. I have seen Burt tested at the most difficult levels and times—he is a warrior.”
In a new statewide ad, Trump claimed, “Burt Jones for Governor has my complete and total endorsement. He’s going to make a great, great governor. He will never let you down.”
Biden’s Bitter Jabs: “The Guy Never Mentions It”
Biden and Trump have been taking brutal, direct shots at each other as the 2026 midterms loom. Biden recently slammed Trump during a speech in South Carolina, mocking the president’s two-hour State of the Union for failing to mention the anniversary of the Ukraine invasion.
Biden stated, “The guy talks for almost two hours, but never mentions the anniversary… Never once.”
Expanding on his vivid frustration with the current administration’s rhetoric, policies, and actions, Barack Obama’s former vice president stated, “Our children are watching, and I’m worried about what they are hearing. We have to be unapologetic for fighting for our country against those who treat political opponents as mortal enemies.”
During a private fundraiser, Biden went even further, allegedly calling Trump’s second term a “revenge tour masquerading as a presidency.”
Trump’s Nasty Counter-Fire: “The Worst In History”
Never one to stay silent, the former reality star and real estate mogul has unleashed a series of scathing attacks on his predecessor, often questioning Biden’s age, mental state, and legacy.
During a fiery rally in Virginia, Trump loudly claimed, “Despite the fact that crooked Joe Biden spent the entire week at Camp David resting, working, studying—he studied so hard that he didn’t know what the hell he was doing.”
And even with the slew of brutal setbacks the administration has faced, Trump has kept casting the 2020 and 2024 cycles as a fight against incompetence.
“Joe Biden disinformates and misinformates… he’s the worst, the most corrupt, the most incompetent president in the history of our country,” Trump posted on social media.
Many political and financial institutions have found that statement odd because the president’s net worth has reportedly increased by approximately $3 billion since 2025.
The family’s cryptocurrency venture, World Liberty Financial, has allegedly netted $1 billion thanks to major real estate deals in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
Most recently, following the launch of the Georgia proxy war, Trump claimed, “Joe Biden is a jibbering nonsense machine who is only coming out of his hole because he’s terrified that we are finally fixing the disaster he left behind.”
