There is a small moment from Prince William and Catherine’s latest royal visit that has suddenly become much bigger than the few seconds it actually lasted, because while the Prince and Princess of Wales were laughing, greeting people and carrying out their engagements on the Isle of Bute, William was seen encouraging or rushing Catherine to keep moving, and almost immediately the internet began debating whether it was simply a husband keeping an already busy schedule on track or something more uncomfortable.

On September 17, William and Princess Catherine visited the Isle of Bute in Scotland.

The heir and his spouse appeared as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay. The couple met residents, watched and tried their hand at shinty, visited a local pub, and took part in a beach clean-up. Their visit was widely portrayed as warm and relaxed, with the couple smiling and engaging with people throughout the day.

But then came the moment that caught attention.

As Catherine continued speaking with members of the public,sharing jokes and receiving flowers and other gifts. Prince William could be heard encouraging her to move along, saying words including, “We’ve got to keep going,” followed by “Keep going… we’ve got to keep moving. Others, however, saw something completely different.

For those viewers, the issue was not necessarily the words themselves but the way William appeared to interrupt Catherine while she was enjoying a conversation. Some interpreted his gestures and repeated encouragement to move as controlling, while others went further and accused him online of behaving like a bully or being disrespectful toward his wife.

At the 2022 wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan, William was reported to have interrupted Catherine’s conversation with the bride, saying “Chop, chop” and “Let’s keep going” while gesturing for her to move along.
