This is not Queen Elizabeth II‘s Monarchy. Indeed, King Charles III is ruling very differently, saying goodbye to the old mantra of “never complain, never explain.”
The newly proclaimed King addresses leaks and rumors about the Monarchy and the royal family head-on via official statements from his spokesperson.
For the past 48 hours, reliable reports have surfaced claiming that King Charles had come to an agreement with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle about the titles that will be given to his two grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet Diana.
Archie and Lilibet Diana, like many other royals, had an automatic title change after their great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth died.
The brother and sister were supposed to go from Master and Miss to Prince and Princess because their grandfather is now the ruling King of England.
The young children were expected to get all the perks that come with the prestigious titles, including having the Monarchy pay for their security even though they reside in California.
According to multiple media outlets, King Charles and the Sussexes did not see eye to eye on how to handle the controversial matter.
After a week of intense negotiation, the King proposed a compromise that left Prince Harry and Markle furious.
King Charles made the following offer because Prince Harry and Markle had stepped down from their royal duties, he would bestow the titles of Prince and Princess, but they would not be allowed to be known as HRH.
A royal source explained to The Sun: “That is the agreement — they can be prince and princess but not HRH because they are not working royals.”
The same person with knowledge of the heated talks added: “The decision came after a lot of talks over the past week” since Harry’s dad became King when his 96-year-old mother died last Thursday.”
The insider shared that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not only disappointed but furious with King Charles’s decision.
The source concluded: “They have been relentless since the Queen died. Harry and Meghan have been insistent that Archie and Lilibet are prince and princess. But they have been left furious that Archie and Lilibet cannot take the title HRH.”
The story rapidly made headlines, and King Charles was quick to clear the air with a message via his spokesperson.
King Charles appeared to confirm that he had decided on the title debacle, but he will not make any announcement now.
He explained that he would further talk about the now sensitive matter after the end of the royal mourning period, which is September 26.
Buckingham Palace said via The Daily Mail: “The King is focused on the mourning period, so it is unlikely [any announcement would be made] on other titles during that period.”
King Charles concluded with a positive note about the future, hinting that all would be resolved peacefully.
The statement read: “The future is an amazing thing. I am sure that at some point, there will be discussion, but not during the royal mourning period.”
The thorny conversation over Archie and Lilibet’s lack of titles was brought up during the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, where Markle suggested the drama was being drummed up because of race.
Markle said at the time: “The idea of the first member of color in this family not being titled in the same way that the other grandchildren. All around this same time — we have in tandem the conversation of…He won’t be given security, and he’s not going to be given a title…also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
King Charles has a different way of dealing with the press.
