Children often look to their parents for answers and guidance, but there is one area where King Charles III cannot teach Prince William much.
While The Monarch is trying to be a doting grandfather to The Prince of Wales‘s three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, he has had a complicated relationship with his two sons.
Prince William and Prince Harry have always been honest about their father being slightly distant as a parent. This is a major factor in what is going on at the moment with The Duke of Sussex.
The Montecito royal said in his memoir, Spare, that the Royal Family and his father, in particular, failed to support him and his wife, Meghan Markle, at their lowest point in England.
Prince William is determined to educate his children in a different way. Despite facing some pushback from The Firm, Prince William and Kate Middleton are determined to raise their children their unique way.
They want their education to be less formal and traditional. While they do compromise from time to time, they manage to hold the line most of the time.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have opted for a hands-on approach, which means they rely less on their staff for the heavy lifting. The Waleses even do Christmas a little differently.
Author Tom Quinn said on a Royally Obsessed episode: “I think really, the biggest change in child-raising in the Royal Family, has happened with Kate and William.”
He continued: “They’ve both been much more involved with the practical business of caring for the children, and I should say, there’s been a lot of resistance in the Royal Family to that, all of these efforts to persuade them to do much more of what’s historically been done, even though everyone knows it’s damaging.”
For the royal expert, the duo works well together. Quinn added: “And he’s got Kate there, who has a totally different, normal, warm, affectionate family background, and William was attracted to Kate because she doesn’t have the cold, aristocratic element to her, she has this warm family, middle-class family.”
He concluded: “Kate and William haven’t been able to go as far as they’ve liked to have gone, but they’ve gone a long way — they bathed the children, when they were younger, spend a lot of time with them — so it has been different, and I think that’s very good for the monarchy, because — they’ve stayed in the monarchy, unlike Meghan and Harry — while making these changes, which is very difficult to do.”
King Charles is watching all of this from a distance, not without a degree of perplexity, and probably liking that this revolution is so smooth.
