Melania Trump went against her husband’s signature accomplishment — having the Supreme Court officially overthrow Roe v. Wade and, therefore, ending the constitutional right to an abortion in the United States.
In her memoir, released weeks before the presidential election, the former first lady boldly confessed that she is pro-abortion, a revelation that sent shock waves through the political world.
The revelation of Mrs. Trump’s pro-abortion stance spilled ink, but the fact that no Republicans dared to challenge her due to her untouchable status left many conservative and religious voters feeling indignant.
Even her husband, former President Donald Trump, remained silent, a response that left many of his supporters feeling disappointed and betrayed.
While Melania Trump was spared all criticism from GOP members, Donald Trump’s new ally and cabinet pick is not receiving the same treatment.
Mike Pence has issued a blistering statement against Trump’s nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) because of his nonchristian, anti-conservative views on abortion, which Pence believes are not in line with the pro-life values he and many Republicans hold dear.
According to The Hill, RKF Jr.’s position on abortion has been inconsistent. Kennedy was for a ban on abortion after the first trimester but is now against it.
The environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine activist shared the following position on the matter via his official website: “I am a firm supporter of the principles laid out 50 years ago in Roe v. Wade and that if the courts do not overturn Dobbs v. Jackson and restore abortion rights, he will support legislation to accomplish the same.”
Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, is a devoted Christian with extreme religious views and who has always been against abortion.
Pence has urged the Senate to vote against Kennedy’s nomination in a heavy-worded statement.
The former conservative governor said: “The Trump-Pence administration was unapologetically pro-life for our four years in office. There are hundreds of decisions made at HHS every day that either lead our nation toward a respect for life or away from it, and HHS under our administration always stood for life. On behalf of tens of millions of pro-life Americans, I respectfully urge Senate Republicans to reject this nomination and give the American people a leader who will respect the sanctity of life as secretary of Health and Human Services.”
Pence has also blasted Trump for slapping his religious voters in the face by dancing on the policy by saying that the states should determine their abortion laws, not the federal government.
Pence slammed his old boss by saying: “President Trump’s retreat on the Right to Life is a slap in the face to the millions of pro-life Americans who voted for him in 2016 and 2020,” Pence wrote in his post before praising the steps their administration took to further the anti-abortion effort.”
Mr. Kennedy is facing a tough nomination battle.
