Much to Queen Elizabeth II‘s dismay, it seems like some members of the Royal Household staff have expressed discontent with the royal family’s intention to keep them quarantined at Sandringham during the holiday season.
The situation has gotten so bad that some staff members, including cleaners, laundry, and maintenance workers, have outright expressed their refusal to participate in the lockdown, leading to an angry response from the Queen herself.
A royal source told The Sun: “The Queen is furious. The staff said enough is enough. It is absolutely unprecedented. Everybody wants to stay loyal, but they feel they’ve been pushed too far by being made to isolate from their families for Christmas. Discussions are taking place with the team on operational matters, but it is too early to speculate on implications for Christmas.”
Apparently, the Queen is not at all happy that the actions of her staff might force her to spend her own Christmas at Windsor Castle, something she had reportedly not done in over three decades.
It is not clear how bad the situation is precisely and what the Queen is planning to do, but there have been some worrying reports indicating that the situation might escalate further if the staff members continue to stand their ground.
Some have suggested that a middle ground could be found that suits both sides of the argument, but that does not seem to be the case so far.
The Queen herself has not made any comments about the situation, and most of what is going on has been relayed through her official (and unofficial) channels.
A royal spokesman recently issued a statement claiming that Queen Elizabeth plans to carry out a “reduced schedule of audiences and engagements at Buckingham Palace in the run-up to Christmas.”
Her Majesty is expected to drastically change her traditional Christmas plans because of the health crisis and might not have many family members by her side because of the safety regulations put in place.
Some royal fans say that the whole messy story may have started to die down behind the scenes, and the public is only hearing the initial fallout of it, but nobody is certain at the moment.
Other British citizens have expressed their own disappointment with the Queen, claiming that she has her priorities in the wrong place if she is willing to inconvenience her own staff and their families for silly Christmas traditions.
