Whether intentional or not, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s latest decision once more put them in the spotlight.
The pair opted to skip the memorial service for Prince Harry’s late grandfather, Prince Philip, held at Westminster Abbey.
It was an emotional event for aging Queen Elizabeth II, who was present with almost 2000 attendees, including Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and two of their children.
Prince Harry was the only senior royal to miss out on the gathering because he felt unsafe traveling to London with his family.
In a lawsuit, Prince Harry stated that he could not fly to London because he no longer gets the protection of the Metropolitan Police after stepping down from his royal duties with Meghan Markle.
According to one royal expert, Prince Harry should have returned to his home country because he would have gotten an agreeable surprise from Queen Elizabeth.
In a new interview, journalist and documentary filmmaker Robert Hardman explained that the Duke of Sussex still has a special bond with his grandmother.
The royal expert, who has done multiple documentaries on the royals, claimed that Her Majesty is very fond of her grandson and would have made an effort to bond with him because she is an expert at compartmentalizing.
He revealed that the Queen knows how to keep family separate from important business.
Speaking on Palace Confidential last week, he stated: “I think the relationship with Harry is still very strong. There is a real fondness and a bond there, and he’s devoted to her. And she’s very good at compartmentalizing.”
People, who are close to the sovereign, claim that while she is a Queen, she is still a grandmother who longs to be with her grandson and his family.
The royal pundit stated: “Talking to people who know her very well, there’s family, and there’s business. The whole issue of them leaving the Royal Family and their Sussex Royal website, that’s business — that gets dealt with separately. But in terms of the grandmother-grandson relationship, it’s still very strong.”
Hardman added that, while the Queen would “clearly be very sad” at Prince Harry’s absence from the memorial service, he should not worry too much about Megxit and the wild interviews because she has seen her fair share of family controversies in the past and is not rattled.
He claimed that Her Majesty’s way of operating pushes her to believe, like all family storms, the one with the Sussex couple has passed.
He added: “She’s been through so many family dramas, national and international dramas, that she can stand back. As one of her former officials told me, she operates on the principle, ‘This storm too shall pass.'”
Many are hoping that Prince Harry and Markle and their children will be present for Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
