Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s decision to leave London and relocate to California affected King Charles III more than previously thought.
According to a royal expert, His Majesty watched his youngest son move thousands of miles away.
King Charles was also forced to see the burgeoning relationship with Markle be dreadfully challenged by the distance and her actions, including the bombshell interviews.
Christopher Andersen, the author of Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan, King Charles was very fond of his American daughter-in-law.
The King was the one who walked Markle down the aisle during her 2018 lavish royal wedding.
Markle, who is highly intelligent and very sophisticated, must have had many conversations with the King about nature and climate change.
It seems that King Charles’s feelings about Markle have evolved over time. The King was initially hurt, but now, he feels betrayed.
The royal journalist spoke to Us Weekly and revealed that King Charles “pays attention to the Sussexes’ interviews and that Charles feels betrayed by some of her opinions on life behind palace walls.”
Since moving to the United States, Markle has poured out her heart to Oprah Winfrey with Prince Harry by her side.
She has been spilling the tea on her Spotify podcast and shared many revelations via The Cut and Variety.
In The Cut, she made this confession about the royals: “I think forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy to not forgive… But it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I’ve really made an active effort, especially knowing that I can say anything [now that she’s no longer a working royal].”
The royal expert explained that he is not bashing Markle for sharing her story “it is just that Charles’ feelings are hurt.”
He elaborated by saying that King Charles is now confused by the pair.
He stated: “I mean, he really was very fond of her. And I think he’s somewhat bewildered.. he stepped in and walked Meghan up the last half of the aisle at her wedding when her father, Thomas Markle, was uninvited. ”
The expert went on to say: “It was a proud moment for Charles, but the fallout from Harry and Meghan stepping down from their senior roles has taken a toll on him.”
The royal commentator concluded: “I don’t think it threw [Queen Elizabeth] as much as it has thrown at Charles, and understandably so, because this is his son and the daughter-in-law who … [have] said some pretty hurtful things.”
It will take time for the two sides to make significant progress.
