Former President Donald Trump is a big supporter of the British royal family, and he has always been vocal about it. After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Mr. Trump put out several statements praising her legacy.
Moreover, the Republican politician fought tooth and nail to get an invitation to the late Monarch‘s state funeral. When he could not get his way, he blamed his successor, President Joe Biden, for not representing the United States the proper way.
The ex-reality TV star is very attached to traditions despite his bombastic ways. Trump was probably hoping the Royal Family held him in high esteem.
However, this might not be the case. There are some events that did not help soften his edges with the royals.
A new book from Christopher Andersen titled The King: The Life of Charles III reveals why the Sovereign and Prince William have issues with the controversial business mogul.
The royal pair was frustrated after Trump made comments about Kate Middleton on Twitter. At the time, the real estate tycoon used to share his thoughts on pop culture developments.
His raw commentary was on Middleton’s topless photo case in 2012. Trump wrote on Twitter: “Kate Middleton is great–but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude–only herself to blame. Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on, Kate!”
The MAGA founder did not limit his wisdom to Twitter. He also said similar things on Fox and Friends: “While we’re all fans of Kate, can you imagine why she would ever be out in the nude? Why would she be standing in the nude in a swimming pool or wherever she was. She’s Kate. It’s terrible what they did; it’s terrible to take pictures, but boy, how can you do a thing so stupid?”
His words did not sit well with King Charles and his oldest son. Their reactions involved a lot of profanity in The Palace.
Newsweek has shared excerpts from the book, and one passage revealed what royal anger looks like. Andersen wrote: “Trump’s criticism of Kate resulted in what one Clarence House butler referred to as “torrents of profanity” from both Prince Charles and his sons.”
This is not the only instance where Trump landed on the wrong side of the senior royals. He called King Charles the “Prince of Whales” instead of Prince of Wales.
The famous New Yorker also bragged about the fact that he “could have nailed” Princess Diana. According to him, he just did not feel like getting too close to the iconic figure.
During his presidency, the royals, including Prince Harry, tried their best to discourage him from making an official trip to England. However, those tactics did not work.
Trump will now have to compose with the bitterness he has fueled in royal circles.
