Critics do not know what to do with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex showed the world that they were capable of putting their differences aside with the other royals.
It was not always easy for them, but they hit all the right notes during their trip to England in September. Even when King Charles III reduced their roles in many of the official events, they showed no anger and kept their heads down.
At the time, many believed that a reconciliation with the new Monarch and Prince William was right around the corner.
However, this was not the case. Au contraire, when the Sussexes returned to California, things took a different turn. The powerful pair decided to focus on their various projects.
Markle has a podcast called Archetypes on Spotify. There is also a Netflix documentary that is forthcoming.
Moreover, on January 10, the renegade prince will release his tell-all memoir Spare, which will cover some of the big moments in his life.
For weeks, rumors suggested that the couple was trying to make changes to the different products not to hurt their standing with The King.
But, it was not the case. The Sussexes have decided to stand firm on the things that they have to share with the world, regardless of the cost.
Despite those recent moves, some are still hoping that Prince Harry will return home if things do not work as planned. However, the scenario seems unlikely as time passes.
Royal expert Angela Levin, the author of Camilla: From Outsider to Queen Consort, says King Charles wants them to come back, but he will be disappointed with their response.
Levin told Express: “Well, I am sure King Charles would like [for the Sussexes to return] because he has always loved Harry, and if you are a father, you will always love your child, although you don’t like what they are doing. They would have to step in line, which I don’t think Meghan would want to do.”
She continued: “I think they would have to apologize profusely, which I don’t know if they would do. I personally don’t think they will be able to, but if they find that people are not buying their stories – I mean, I don’t know how many more stories you can tell about your life — who knows, they might come back. But I don’t think they would come crawling back. I don’t think they would be welcome in this country either because it would mean that they failed, really.”
In another sign that there is no going back home for the Sussexes, they are likely to turn down an invitation from The King to spend Christmas at Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Family.
This is a tradition that started in 1988 with Queen Elizabeth II. It will be the first big family gathering without her and with King Charles on the throne.
A source close to The Monarch tells The Daily Mail: “They are unlikely to attend.”
Observers say Prince Harry knows his book will cause trouble for his father, so the time is not right to reconcile. The rebellious prince will visit the UK early next year to promote the book.
This might be another window of opportunity to bridge the divide with the Royal Family.
