John McCain Dies At 81 — Barack Obama And George W. Bush Will Deliver Eulogies At His Funeral

John McCain Barack Obama Donald Trump

Real-life American hero John McCain has died at the age of 81 following a long battle with brain cancer. The senator from Arizona and former presidential candidate was the embodiment of American heroism and courage.

McCain was often described in the media as a maverick, a political figure who could reach accross the aisle and work with the other side in a country where bipartisanship is becoming a dirty word.

On topics like immigration, campaign finance, and healthcare; the war hero became the Republican that Democrats loved.

However, many of them did not vote for him in 2008 because of the rapid rise then-candidate Barack Obama and the selection of Sarah Palin as McCain’s vice-presidential candidate, something he regretted later on.

Recently, he stood up to President Donald Trump when it came to decorum and his approach to politics while remaining true to some conservative ideas.

Trump spent a reasonable amount of time in the past three years painting McCain’s capture in Vietnam and heroism in a very negative light.

The supporters of the New York Republican also joined in and often booed the war hero at political rallies.

Even after reports about the Arizona politician’s declining health surfaced, Trump did not change his behavior a bit and failed to even mention his name at an event honoring his service to this country.

For political experts, McCain will remain the man that got away, the one who should have prevented the Bush presidency in 2000 after a brutal political campaign which took a racist turn before the primary in South Carolina.

Bush allies used McCain’s adopted daughter’s race and origin as a weapon against him. In 2008, he refused to take the same path and defended Obama against the smear that he was a Muslim trying to destroy this country.

The moment went viral and will be discussed for a very long time as a rare moment of decency in politics. The two men became close over the years as former VP Joe Biden played the role of peacemaker.

The late politician requested that former presidents — George W. Bush and Barack Obama — deliver eulogies at his funeral, a last dig at Trump.

McCain is survived by his wife Cindy McCain, and his five children — Meghan McCain, Bridget McCain, John Sidney McCain IV, James McCain, and Sidney McCain.
