Following the death of Dr. Ulrich Klopfer, an abortion doctor in South Bend Indiana, authorities have made the gruesome discovery of more than 2,200 fetal remains on his property.
The fetuses were reportedly found in the doctor’s home by his family members as they were cleaning it out, and he had taken great care to preserve them.
Some have described Dr. Klopfer as one of the most prolific people in his line of work, having performed tens of thousands of abortions over his career.
The containers of the 2,246 fetal remains were dated from 2000 to 2002 — during that period Klopfer headed three abortion clinics in Indiana.
It is also worth noting that his career came to an abrupt end in 2016 when his license was suspended after he had failed to exercise appropriate care and caution when working on a patient.
It is not clear how the fetus collection came to be, however, and whether the physician had collected the remains legally or through sketchy means.
Dr. Klopfer was criticized for giving women abortion pills on their very first consultation before they had confirmed their intention to abort.
He took great pride in the fact that there had been no fatal or serious incidents during his years of practice, something which did indeed draw a lot of positive comments towards him.
Dr. Klopfer was a controversial figure before he died, but it looks like the controversy is just starting to boil on that front, as the discovery of the fetus remains is sure to bring a lot of attention to him after his departure.
The situation is still being clarified, and a lot remains unknown, but authorities have called on women who may have had an abortion by the physician to come forward to help with the disturbing case.
Will County Sherrif Mike Kelley, who is handling the case, stated: “I can tell you, in the 31 years that I’ve been doing this job, I’ve never seen anything like this ever. It is a strange … once in a lifetime type of thing.”
Kelley went on to reveal that the Indiana Attorney General’s Office has stepped in to investigate the matter further.
Will County State’s Attorney General James Glasgow said: “What we’re looking for is to work with Indiana authorities to find out if there’s more and work with them if victims come forward that want to participate in the criminal justice system.”
Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill did not mince his words and slammed the doctor for his actions that he deemed improper and problematic.
Hill said: “He certainly was problematic in life and as it turns out, continues to present problems in his death.”
2020 Democratic Presidential candidate and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg has reacted on the abortion scandal: “Like everyone, I find the news out of Illinois extremely disturbing, and I think it’s important that it be fully investigated. I also hope it doesn’t get caught up in politics at a time when women need access to healthcare. There’s no question that what happened is disturbing. It’s unacceptable. And it needs to be looked into fully.”
Conservatives have tried to use this to highlight Buttigieg’s stance on abortion.
