Teacher, Who Was Charged With Hate Crime For Calling Elderly Woman A ‘Nazi,’ Claims She Was The Victim In Alleged Attack

Nancy Sweeney Illinois Teacher Facing Hate Crime Conviction Over Nazi

Nancy Sweeney, 45, a teacher from Illinois, might be facing serious trouble in her future, as she has been charged with assault over an incident in which she referred to an elderly woman as a “fuc*ing Nazi.”

Police have reportedly added a hate crime to the list of charges, making the Franklin Elementary School teacher’s situation even more serious, and implying that she might be facing more drama later on.

The fourth-grade teacher was arrested over a month ago after police were notified about the incident, and she has been accused of hitting her neighbor who is 87 years old in the face using a purse.

The disturbing incident allegedly took place in a parking garage. Afterward, the neighbor who is of German descent, fell to the ground and managed to escape the scene with bruises and cuts.

The woman refused to be taken to the hospital confessed that she was called a Nazi during the incident as well, a claim which police have taken seriously.

The incident reportedly started over the fact that the victim was using an indoor garage to exercise, something which did not sit well with her neighbor.

It is not clear why that was so problematic for the attacker, but at this point, it does not seem like the police are going to be very sympathetic towards her, looking at the way the situation has been developing.

It is also not clear how the woman’s teaching job will be affected, but many members of the local community have expressed their disgust over the fact that someone like that is in a position to educate their children, calling for action to be taken against her.

Thus far, the Park Ridge elementary school teacher has been put on paid administrative leave, according to Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 spokesman Peter Gill.

Sweeney has been working at Franklin School for 13 years. She paid 10% of her $15,000 bond and has been released from custody and is set to have her day in court on May 11.

On February 24, Sweeney contacted the police and claimed that she was the victim. She said at the time: “I was attacked by a lady who said she’s proud to be a Nazi. No, I let it go …. She thinks she’s a Nazi. She’s freaking nuts.”

The arrest was made four days later and this time Sweeney made no comment.
