Meghan Markle is a topic of conversation on two continents for many reasons. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has been spilling ink since she joined the British royal family, had the royal wedding of the decade, welcomed baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and rattled the monarchy by moving back to California with her family.
The former actress and her husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, have also been the subjects of many bombshell books that take an in-depth look into their complicated lives and dwindling relationships with the rest of the royal family.
Meghan also has complicated relationships with her father, Thomas Markle, and her half-siblings, who have often dragged her in the media and shared intimate details about her life.
The ongoing family feud boiled over from the tabloids to a British court with the publication of a private letter she wrote to her father.
While lawyers and a judge are handling the lawsuit filed by Meghan over the leak of her personal mail, she also decided to address the matter in a bestseller, indirectly.
To get her side of the story out to the world, Meghan shared personal information with a friend who gave it to the authors of the book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family.
Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito, and Rachel Bowie recently weighed in on the matter and said that it is sad that Meghan had to follow in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, to defend herself.
Princess Diana fought against fake stories by giving information and photos to a third party who would later leak them in the media.
Fiorito told listeners: “My low this week has been all the back-and-forth about Finding Freedom. So we just heard that Meghan did allow an acquaintance to give the true position to the authors. It just feels weird. The clarification is only about the letter she wrote to her dad.”
She added: “It is not about any of the other details in the book. I think it’s a private letter. And that it should never have been published, obviously. It just stinks to have this all brought up again.”
She concluded by saying that it is terrible that Meghan has to relive these painful stories about her father and added: “It is really interesting. And we’ll have to just see how it all plays out. But it is just sad that she has to relive all of this over and over again for this case.”
Meghan and Harry will face Thomas in a court of law in late 2021.
