It has been confirmed that Meghan Markle‘s estranged father, Thomas Markle, drove to the home of TV host Oprah Winfrey to deliver a handwritten letter asking her to interview him.
Millions of people — including Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle — watched earlier in March when the interview conducted by Oprah Winfrey with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry was aired.
And now a leaked report claimed that Thomas Markle, 76, has driven to Oprah Winfrey’s home in Montecito — just a mile from where the Sussexes live in the same area — to deliver a letter which requests Oprah allows him to tell his side of the story.
Thomas Markle, who lives in Mexico, drove next to Prince Harry and Meghan’s property but did not attempt to see the power couple because the letter was for Oprah.
The letter was received by a member of Oprah Winfrey’s security team. In the letter, written by hand, Thomas Markle asked Oprah to sit down with him and conduct an interview as he believes he deserves the chance to “have his say,” according to a source.
A source close to the grandfather explained: “Thomas delivered a letter to Oprah asking her to contact him so he could tell his side of the story. This was not a note to Meghan and Harry. It was meant for Oprah. Thomas watched the interview she did with them and feels he deserves a chance to have his say.”
Via Twitter, Samantha Markle confirmed that her father did reach out to Oprah with a personal letter.
She wrote: “@Oprah, I’m so proud of my dad for dropping off a letter to you and asking to share his side of the story, especially because that interview was so untrue, one-sided, and defamatory.”
When his daughter, Meghan Markle, sat down with Oprah for the interview a few weeks ago, she spoke about how her father had “hurt” her and left her feeling betrayed after he worked with a press photographer in 2018 to construct scenarios of him going about his day, which were then published in various news outlets.
Although Thomas Markle has previously spoken about the scandal and admitted to lying about the photos, it was the first time Meghan had spoken publicly about the situation.
After the interview aired in the UK on March 8, Thomas Markle appeared the next day on Good Morning Britain, where he criticized his son-in-law, Prince Harry, and said he would welcome the chance to see his daughter and his grandson, Archie, 1.
Thomas Markle was famously not invited to the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in 2018.
Sources have claimed that the father and daughter have not spoken to each other in three years.
