Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were delighted to make history last week — experts believe that the husband and wife are the first royals ever to visit the 9/11 Memorial and pay their respects to those who lost their lives and the loved ones left behind.
The pair is also being slammed for their New York trip because these same experts say it was a big finger to Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the royal family and how they have been doing things for centuries.
Meghan Markle and her spouse captivated some and angered others with their first major public appearance since quitting as working senior members of the British royal family.
The philanthropists traveled to New York to take part in a vaccine equality concert event and used the opportunity to tour the One World Trade Center, which stands on the site of the former World Trade Center.
The Duke of Sussex and the former actress dressed in black for the serious and somber visit and walked hand in hand as they spoke with local government officials before spending some quiet time at the 9/11 Memorial.
According to royal author Duncan Larcombe, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s every move and work provoke conversations and reactions in London, and their trip to the Big Apple was no exception.
Talking to Closer magazine, the expert explained that royals fans and the media should expect similar trips for the activists in the upcoming weeks.
He revealed that Prince Harry and the humanitarian are setting a precedent that sparked meetings inside the palace walls.
Larcombe said: “Their stepping-out last week will no doubt be the first of many similar appearances and visits. Harry and Meghan are setting a precedent for their new line of work and what they have decided they will be.”
He went on to share: “They essentially did a royal visit like they used to in the UK – just on their own terms and in their own way. So it seems they have quit life in the UK to do exactly what they did here over in the States. Their visit to the memorial last week makes them the first two ‘royals’ – if they can still be considered that – to pay their respects at the 20th anniversary of 9/11.”
The commentator concluded by saying that the visit was an opportunity to display their disrespect to the monarchy and added: “There will no doubt be a lot of meetings at the Palace and talks over how they are going to approach Harry and Meghan’s plans. This visit was a huge two fingers up to the royal family and shows the royal feud is far from over.”
Despite their decision to give the royals the finger, the Sussexes hope to return to London this Christmas to have Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor christened and for her to meet Queen Elizabeth.
Royal expert and author Robert Jobson chimed in to say it was a hypocritical move and continued: “I’m not sure Meghan will go to Britain again; she’s not popular here now. The idea of her standing next to the Queen, doting on the Queen when you’ve got a book coming out in which you’re going to spill more dirty linen in public does seem a little hypocritical.”
The powerful duo will never please everyone.
