Kim Kardashian is moving away from one drama only to stumble into another one.
Fresh from the chaos involving Kanye West and her boyfriend, Pete Davidson, the billionaire TV personality has received massive backlash over comments about working women who are apparently not trying hard enough.
In a sit-down with Variety, Kim Kardashian was asked to share a piece of advice with working women and entrepreneurs.
The reality TV star responded by: “Get their f*ing aes up and work; it seems like nobody wants to work these days.”
The Internet erupted and slammed Kardashian for being a privileged woman who grew up in a famous family of millionaires who dared to look down on hard-working females going the extra mile to achieve their goals.
This week, Kim Kardashian tried to do some damage control by appearing on Good Morning America where she sat down with anchor Robin Roberts.
Kardashian apologized for her statement and explained that it was all taken out of context.
She said: “That statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it. In that soundbite, I came off of the notion in the question right before, which was, ‘After 20 years of being in the business, you’re famous for being famous.’ And my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about, ‘What advice would you give to women.'”
Kardashian went on to further clarify her jaw-dropping advice: “The advice that I would give is just that having a social media presence and being on a reality show does not mean overnight success. You have to really work hard to get there, even if it might seem like it’s easy and that you can build a really successful business off of social media, and you can if you put in a lot of hard work. And it wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think that they don’t work hard. I know that they do.”
Now, Variety writer and reporter Elizabeth Wagmeister, who wrote the story, is going after Kim Kardashian and has asked everyone to look at the raw footage to discover the truth.
Wagmeister shared: “It’s not what she claims. I just reviewed the raw footage. The question was very direct: ‘What would be your advice for women in business?’ The question about being famous for being famous came after that question, actually.”
Kardashian was ridiculed during the Oscars for her comment with hosts Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes telling Judi Dench: “Work harder: That’s what we need you to do.”
Sykes added: “You’ve gotta move that (expletive), dame.”
Kardashian is learning the rules of the current media landscape.
