When Prince Harry, who is sixth in Britain’s royal line of succession, stepped down from his royal duties in 2020, millions of people were surprised and angry.
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, now reside in California with their two children — Archie and Lilibet Diana.
Among those shocked by the major development was Martyn Compton, who was a close friend of Prince Harry for more than 15 years.
Lance Corporal Martyn Compton is a British war hero who suffered burns to 75 percent of his body when his armored vehicle was blown up by a Taliban while on a combat tour in Afghanistan.
Compton returned to England, where he was in a coma for several months; his strength and resilience made it possible for him to wake up from his hellish situation. He went on to get married and has two children, including a son named Archie.
In a resurfaced interview with Compton, he said he hopes the Duke of Sussex took the time to think through some of his actions and decisions after leaving the royal family.
The army veteran specifically questioned Prince Harry and Markle’s decision to sit down with Oprah Winfrey for a bombshell interview that has rattled the royal family to its core.
Compton spoke to The Sun and said that he genuinely hoped that the conversation with the media mogul was worth the “high price” he paid.
Prince Harry’s ex-army pal went on to say that not many people know the motives behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but he wants the Duke to give himself “the time to think it all through.”
He said: “As Prince Harry’s friend and someone who has served alongside him, I’m shocked and amazed it’s all come to this. I genuinely hope the interview with Oprah Winfrey and all that goes with it is worth it to him, as this is a very high price to pay.”
He also spoke about the massive Netflix deal by adding: “I don’t know what he’s getting out of it, perhaps it’s getting something off his chest. But with high-profile deals, including Netflix, what I do know is that no royal should ever be seen to be cashing in. No one knows his motives apart from Prince Harry in agreeing to do this interview. But I really hope he has given himself the time to think it all through”.
Compton said that he prays that his former friend does not “come to bitterly regret” his choices of leaving his lifelong royal duties and other commitments.
He went on to praise Prince Harry by saying that he gained the respect of others in the military because he “earned it,” not because of “who he was.”
The ex-Household Cavalry Lance Corporal concluded by saying that Prince Harry cannot have it “both ways.”
Since the Oprah interview, Prince Harry has appeared on multiple shows and podcasts to share his grievances about the royal family.
He briefly flew to England in April, where he had tea with Queen Elizabeth II and spoke with Prince Charles.
Less than 48 hours later, he appeared on NBC to talk about his private meetings with the senior royals.
Prince Harry and Markle are planning to travel to London to attend Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
It is being claimed that Prince Harry might delay his upcoming memoir to add some details about the Jubilee.
