For several years, the salacious romance between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles dominated the media mainly because he was still married to Princess Diana.
There were leaks of intimate and humiliating tapes that contained conversations between the duo. The romance, while tumultuous, led to a wedding that took place in 2005.
With years of hard work, Camilla Parker Bowles has managed to earn the respect of Queen Elizabeth II and the British people.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, decided to open up about her marriage to the future King of England.
Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, confessed that because of their hectic schedules that include traveling and meetings with various people who push their charities, it is “not easy” finding time to spend with Prince Charles.
Bowles confessed: “It’s not easy sometimes, but we do always try to have a point in the day when we meet. Sometimes it’s like ships passing in the night, but we always sit down together and have a cup of tea and discuss the day. We have a moment. It’s lovely to catch up when we have a bit of time. You know, when we go away, the nicest thing is that we actually sit and read our books in different corners of the same room. It’s very relaxing because you know you don’t have to make conversation. You just sit and be together.”
She was rapidly criticized and mocked for talking about her supposed demanding work schedule when the world knows that members of the royal family are wealthy and privileged — and have not held tough 9-to-5 jobs earning minimum wages.
The Duchess of Cornwall was also married before embarking on a romance with The Prince of Wales.
Bowles and Andrew Parker Bowles got a divorce in 1995. They share children, Tom and Laura.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who are the parents of Prince William and Prince Harry, split in 1992 and were officially divorced in 1996.
Camilla Parker Bowles opened up about the scrutiny she faced after the death of Princess Diana by saying: “It’s not easy. I was scrutinized for such a long time that you just have to find a way to live with it. Nobody likes to be looked at all the time and, you know, criticized and… But I think in the end, I sort of rise above it and get on with it. You’ve got to get on with life.”
Earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth rewarded Bowles for her loyalty and dedication to her royal duties by announcing that she would be known as Queen Consort, when Prince Charles takes the throne.
