Recently, King Charles III made the heartbreaking announcement that he had been diagnosed with a form of cancer. In a statement from Buckingham Palace, His Majesty opted not to reveal the type of cancer he is battling.
However, he explained that he and his medical team are optimistic and that his treatment would lead to recovery. The Palace said at the time: “The Monarch, 75, remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
While undergoing his treatment, King Charles and Queen Camilla have been keeping up with the business of the monarchy.
King Charles has been working from home, while Queen Camilla has the grueling tasks of performing as many in-person royal engagements as possible as a 76-year-old caring for a cancer-stricken husband.
Page Six has learned that King Charles and Queen Camilla have been working with the British government to update the infamous and heartbreaking Bridge Plan.
The Bridge Plan is the code name for the funeral plan for an English monarch and his or her spouse. It lays out the announcement of The Sovereign‘s passing, the period of official mourning, and the details of the state funeral held at Westminster Abbey,- unless The Monarch or spouse had other final wishes. The plan was created in the 1960s and has been revised many times over the years.
Funeral plans for Queen Elizabeth II were known as Operation London Bridge; for then-Prince Charles, now King Charles, it has been dubbed Menai Bridge.
The publication states: “Menai Bridge—a reference to a span in the principality— and now Buckingham Palace and the British Government are in advanced planning for the vast public spectacle of another royal funeral.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla have been privately meeting with government officials without Prince William to get the plan up to date.
One senior government source told the news outlet: “I know multiple meetings have been held to update the Bridge Plan. There have been meetings with the King and Queen because they have to sign off on the plans.”
Prince William has been shut out of the devastating and serious preparation because King Charles has made the decision that it is best that he focuses on more important matters, such as his wife, Kate Middleton, who is also battling cancer.
The heir to the throne also has three young children to care for while juggling royal engagements.
