Kate Middleton has found herself in a rather tricky position just months after revealing her significant health struggles.
And once more, the future Queen of England is fighting back. The year began with Princess Kate celebrating a huge birthday, her 42nd, and almost immediately falling ill.
After a significant operation, Kate Middleton discovered she was battling cancer. She eventually completed chemotherapy and gradually returned to her royal duties.
Then comes another situation — not as devastating as the health scare — for the mother of three to handle.
This time, Prince William and his wife are facing a huge decision involving their oldest son and heir to the throne.
The decision is about where Prince George, 11, should continue his education, which has sparked a heated debate within the Royal Family.
Princess Kate is at odds with a long-standing tradition that dictates her son’s education. King Charles III, The Firm, and Prince William believe that once Prince George’s preparatory school ends, he should be separated from his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is determined that her son should attend a co-ed school in England to be with his younger siblings, with whom he shares a tight bond.
Princess Kate also wants Prince George to be home and have a normal childhood, creating priceless memories during family dinners and playing games with his brother and sister.
Resolute in his commitment to royal traditions, Prince William firmly believes that Prince George should follow the path set by his predecessors.
The Prince of Wales is eying a boarding school with Eton — the institution that formed the royals and British aristocrats — as the top pick.
Vanity Fair and BBC’s royal reporter Katie Nicholl explained that Princess Kate’s heart is breaking over the archaic protocol.
This tradition dictates that the future King should attend a boarding school, a practice that has been followed for generations in the Royal Family.
The journalist stated, according to Page Six: “Kate‘s preference is for George to be at a co-education school so he can be with his siblings, which is what Kate experienced at Marlborough with her sister, Pippa, and brother, James.”
Nicholl said it was a tough battle because Prince William had the arguments and, as the heir to the British monarchy, the authority to enact this outdated and unwritten rule of sending the future King to a boarding school.
She said: “It was a very happy school life for her, but William has very fond memories of Eton, which has a long history with aristocrats and members of the Royal Family.”
Prince William is also the same man who is determined to redefine royalty with a “small r,” modernize, and slim down the monarchy he is part of.
Therefore, there is some hope that he will change the rules to make his son happy. She added: “There’s always the possibility of traditions being changed. William and Harry didn’t end up following in their father’s footsteps by going to Gordonstoun [in Scotland], and it may be that George breaks the Eton mold and ends up somewhere else. Whatever happens, it’ll be a decision made by William and Kate with George’s best interests factored in.”
Other Royal Family members, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, could not obtain the changes they desired in the century-old institutions and decided that stepping away was the best option for them.
Kate Middleton spent her two decades as a royal discreetly and incrementally making piecemeal changes in the monarchy, which is why many believe she will find a way to keep the three precious children together for a normal childhood.
