Gwen Stefani is known for her band No Doubt, but most recently for her fascinating romance with country singer Blake Shelton, who also serves as a co-judge on The Voice.
However, in a surprising turn of events, “The Sweet Escape” singer, who was once known for her music career, has now chosen to be more open about her personal faith, a move that has left her followers beyond furious.
Gwen Stefani has clarified that she is religious and is willing to discuss her faith publicly. The devoted Catholic has taken it a step further.
She has found ways to introduce and guide people into the Church through prayers, apps, and words of encouragement. The “Rich Girl” artist recently took to social media to promote the Catholic prayer mobile app, Hallow.
Gwen Stefani has also taken part in a 40-day prayer challenge and encouraged her fans to do the same.
In a video, the pop star shared a courageous and inspiring testimony about her journey back to her faith and into the Church where she was raised.
A reflective Stefani explained: “I didn’t go away to college, I lived at home with my family until I was twenty-six years old. I still had my routine through my twenties of going to church with my family. However, those rhythms that had always served me so well eventually faded from my life as my music career began to grow. I fell away from my faith. And then came a time in my life when I felt like I was losing everything. My emotional and mental stress from my situation quickly turned to physical pain, like a physical illness, chronic pain that prevented me from doing daily, ordinary things, and I was so scared.”
She added: “I was trying everything to find some sort of cure to what I was going through. During this time I wasn’t as close to God as I wanted to be, and I knew he was calling me back, and it was then my prayer life started again. Feeling so desperate, I got on my knees and asked God: ‘Please, please get me well, please use my gift of music again. Please let me be the person I used to be.’ I began returning to daily prayer, trusting that God had a purpose for me, knowing that I needed to serve God. A lot of amazing changes have happened in my life since then, and my faith has been a source of strength and hope, carrying me through it all.”
Gwen Stefani’s public expression of her faith has stirred a range of emotions among her fans, from anger to disappointment, as they grapple with this unexpected revelation.
Some of her former backers have even gone to the extent of boycotting her new album, Bouquet, in response to her disclosure of her faith.
She has been tagged as a MAGA and Donald Trump supporter. One social media user said: “MAGA SELLOUT” Another frustrated music lover wrote: “Cannot respect you or support your music.”
This person mocked the diva by writing: “So when is the duet with Kid Rock dropping with Ted Nugent on guitar and Snoop Dog doing the rap?”
The members of the LGBTQ+ community have also slammed her for turning her back on them and embracing a religion that views them as sinners who will burn in hell.
A disenchanted backer claimed: “Ugh, how can you reject all of the feminist LGBTQ people who have supported you all these years and support ideals of hatred?”
Others have slammed the artist for pushing a new Christian and conservative persona to change the conversations from her cultural appropriation accusations.
Stefani created major scandals with her “Harajuku Girls” era and her “I’m Japanese” remark. Most recently, Stefani sparked a cultural appropriation controversy with her appearance in Sean Paul‘s song “Light My Fire.”
