This week, an event honoring the late Princess Diana took place in England, and Prince Harry announced that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, would not attend it.
Instead, Prince William greeted the many wealthy and high-profile donors who contributed to the prominent statue of Diana that was unveiled over the summer at Kensington Palace.
Prince Harry, sans his family, was present for the unveiling of the statue. For weeks, rumors claimed that Prince Harry and the former actress were planning to travel to London for the star-studded gathering.
Many were hoping that Meghan Markle and her spouse would bring their baby girl, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to meet Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of her royal relatives.
However, Prince Harry and the philanthropist have abruptly changed their mind and remained in their Califonia, leaving Prince William to handle it all independently.
Famed royal expert Duncan Larcombe revealed that the Duke of Sussex‘s decision not to attend a memorial party for his mother would further widen the divide between himself and his older brother.
The author explained: “I think it’s very sad that Harry didn’t go and I think he [would have been] sorely missed. Obviously, he lives a long way away now, and we’ve still got travel restrictions, but it’s entirely possible for him to fly back to the UK, as he showed in July for the unveiling of the statue.”
He added: “Both of Diana’s sons should be there. Unfortunately, it’s just further confirmation – not that another is needed – that things are not great between the brothers. If their mother’s legacy can’t bring them together, then you do wonder what on earth can.”
Duncan went on to say that Prince William would “do the decent thing” towards his brother during the party and speak on his behalf.
He stated: “It’ll be interesting to see if William makes any reference to Harry, and I would expect he will [have done]. He [will have] thanked people for being there on behalf of him and his brother. We’ll have to wait until we know what William [has said] before we can draw conclusions about whether the rift has deepened.”
While Prince William will have a noble behavior, make no mistake — he is still livid about Meghan Markle’s interview where she made an unpleasant accusation involving his wife, Kate Middleton.
The commentator shared: “It’s very easy to forget just how personal the attack on Oprah was against Kate. William is understandably very protective of Kate and let’s not forget that Meghan directly accused Kate of making her cry rather than the other way round. She then accused Kate of briefing journalists against her, or at least not clarifying the truth of the story, when actually it’s a very strong allegation to make publicly.”
He reminded the world that royal family members rarely attack or publicly turn on each other except for Princess Diana.
He claimed: “Between two members of the royal family, it’s almost unheard of. The only other royal who’s done that is Diana when she was publicly attacking her husband.”
The brothers are still not close to reconciling.
