Meghan King’s Parenting Under Fire For Shocking Reason as Ex-Husband Jim Edmonds Gets Full-Time Custody

Meghan King Jim Edmonds Custody

Former Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King has reached a custody agreement with ex-husband Jim Edmonds following a Child Protective Services investigation that temporarily stripped her of physical custody of their three children. The deal comes after an emergency court ruling, allegations involving unprescribed medication, and months of escalating post-divorce conflict between the former spouses.

King, 41, is no stranger to controversy, but the latest developments mark one of the most serious moments of her public life.

A source confirmed to PEOPLE that Child Protective Services opened an investigation after a school employee reported concerns involving King. The case was allegedly triggered after King gave one of her sons unprescribed ADHD medication (Ritalin) on multiple occasions and allegedly attempted to have a school nurse administer it. The nurse refused.

Emergency Hearing Led to Temporary Custody Loss

Following an emergency hearing, Edmonds was granted sole physical custody of the former couple’s three children: daughter Aspen, 8, and twins Hart and Hayes, 7.

King was stripped of physical custody and granted supervised visitation rights, with the family initially scheduled to return to court in early December for a review of the order.

King’s Custody Loss Follows Years of Post-Divorce Conflict

The custody change marked the latest escalation in the notoriously volatile post-divorce relationship between King and Edmonds.

The former couple divorced in 2019 after five years of marriage, finalizing their split and agreeing to joint custody in May 2021. Edmonds, 55, later married Kortnie Edmonds (née O’Connor) in 2022.

Tensions between King, Edmonds, and his current wife have repeatedly flared, often playing out publicly and through legal channels.

Police Called After Altercation at Edmonds’ Missouri Home

Those tensions boiled over on May 1, when an altercation occurred at Edmonds’s home in Missouri.

Kortnie Edmonds called 911, claiming King entered the residence without permission and was “causing a disturbance.” King told responding officers she was there to drop off clothes for her daughter. No arrests were made.

Bodycam Footage Shows King Alleging ‘Emotional Abuse’

Bodycam footage from the Frontenac Police Department, later obtained by Us Weekly, showed King breaking down while telling officers that Edmonds was “emotionally abusive.”

Although Kortnie initially said she would press harassment charges, the matter was later resolved after the two sides agreed to cease contact.

Edmonds’s Team Pushes Back on King’s Claims

In response to King’s accusations, a representative for Edmonds strongly denied the claims in a statement to PEOPLE.

“As usual, Meghan is telling tales,” the representative said. “She and Jim barely communicate, so if someone is emotionally abusing her, it’s not Jim. And she is not getting full custody; Jim is an active and present father to all his children.”

The statement added that the ongoing conflict has taken an emotional toll on the children.

“The unfortunate part of all this is that it’s the kids who suffer the most… Jim has always been willing to co-parent in a respectful and productive way; however, Meghan has yet to reciprocate.”

Custody Agreement Reached, Cancelling December Court Hearing

Since the emergency ruling, King and Edmonds have reached a custody agreement, cancelling their planned December court appearance.

According to Page Six and Us Weekly, the new arrangement allows King to spend time with her children for “a few weeks every summer,” while Aspen, Hart, and Hayes will live full-time with Edmonds in Tennessee.

“The custody hearing has been called off, and both sides have reached an agreement that is in the best interests of the children,” Edmonds’s representative Steve Honig told Page Six. The deal was finalized shortly before the former couple was set to appear before a judge on December 9.

The agreement follows the CPS investigation that began after King allegedly gave Hayes unprescribed ADHD medication. An insider told Page Six that Hayes has not been diagnosed with ADHD. After CPS contacted Edmonds and his wife, the pair reportedly flew from Tennessee to Missouri, where King resides, to be with the children during the investigation.

King was granted supervised visitation twice a week before the agreement was reached. Representatives for both King and Edmonds were not immediately available for comment following reports of the finalized custody terms.

The children spent Thanksgiving with Jim and Kortnie Edmonds, according to Page Six. Shortly afterward, Edmonds celebrated Aspen’s 9th birthday with a Taylor Swift–themed party, signaling a return to routine for the children amid the fallout.
