As Queen Elizabeth II prepares for her lavish and historical Platinum Jubilee — she is hit with disappointment from Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.
However, the Queen is said to be eager to embrace the couple and their young children.
Her Majesty will be taking part in festivities with millions of Britons, but she is mainly looking forward to being with her family members.
The aging monarch, who recently faced a health scare that needed hospitalization, sees the events around her 70-year reign as an opportunity for the royal family to reconcile, reunite, and heal after the hellish year they have been through.
Queen Elizabeth lost her husband in 2021 and has not seen much of her relatives because of the pandemic.
According to a royal expert, Queen Elizabeth hopes that Prince Harry and the aspiring American politician will end the heartbreaking and difficult separation from her great-grandchildren.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who exited their royal duties two years ago, have yet to return to the UK together.
The couple’s baby daughter, Lilibet Diana, has never met the Queen despite carrying her name.
According to royal expert Camilla Tominey, who took part in the documentary, 2021: The Queen’s Terrible Year, the Queen is having a tough time with the absence of Archie and Lilibet.
The veteran journalist explained: “I’m sure the Queen was absolutely delighted to hear the news that the Sussexes were expecting a second child. But it is difficult for the Queen because she hasn’t been able to see Archie. I think the last time she actually saw him in the flesh was November 2019.”
She added: “The only time she’s ever going to see these great-grandchildren is if they come over to the UK. Maybe she will see them as she marks her Platinum Jubilee. We have to wait and see.”
Another royal source told The Sunday Times that Elizabeth II is disappointed that Markle and Prince Harry’s children are growing up so far away from their cousins.
A person familiar with the situation told the paper: “She will be very sad to have barely seen Archie and that he will miss out on growing up with his cousins and wider family.”
Royal correspondent and commentator Alistair Bruce recently revealed that despite all the drama, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should return to London because the Queen has already forgiven them.
He shared: “I have no idea, but I think you find in the Queen an extraordinarily forgiving and warm member of the Royal Family and who wants to embrace everyone in whatever way she can. Most families have ups and downs, and I think for the Queen to have as many of her family around her is as reassuring as most people when they can bring families together.
The tell-all book that Prince Harry is working on might complicate things some more.
