On Thursday, Prince Harry sat down for an intimate and lengthy interview where he caused a stir with some of his revelations blaming Prince Charles‘ parental mistakes on Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
For about 90 minutes, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard, where no stones were left unturned.
He opened up about his romance with Meghan Markle, his drug-fueled youth, battling mental issues, “Megxit,” and his new life in California.
Without his pregnant wife, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry was on the show to promote his upcoming Apple TV+ mental health series with Oprah Winfrey, entitled The Me You Can’t See, which is set to premiere on Friday.
The prince promised more jaw-dropping revelations would be made on The Me You Can’t See TV special.
Prince Harry said that he decided that he wanted to leave the royal family in his early 20s because he feared that he would end up like his late mother, Princess Diana.
The Duke of Sussex took a shot at Prince Charles’s parenting style and decisions that caused him pain. He also claimed that Prince Charles’s lack of guidance is to be blamed on his grandfather, the late Prince Philip.
He said that he was a very angry man when he met Meghan Markle, and she advised him to go to therapy.
An emotional Prince Harry confessed that he moved to California because he wanted his children to have a different life from his.
Queen Elizabeth II‘s grandson had this to say about Prince Charles’ failure as a father: “Yeah, what you’ll see in the Me you can’t see that comes out on the 21st of May, is very much a case of: I verbalize it, which is isn’t life about breaking the cycle, right. There’s no blame. I don’t think we should be pointing the finger or blaming anybody. But certainly, when it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered.”
Meghan Markle’s husband stated: “I’m going to make sure that I break that cycle, so that I don’t pass it on, basically. There’s a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway. And we as parents, we should be doing the most that we can to try and say, You know what, that happened to me – I’m gonna make sure that doesn’t happen to you.”
Prince Harry further pointed the finger at Prince Philip for the way he was mistreated by Prince Charles.
He claimed: “It’s really hard to do, but for me, it comes down to awareness. Like I never, I never saw it. I never knew about it. And then suddenly, I started to piece it all together and go: Okay, so this is where he went to school. This is what happened. I know this bit about his life. I also know that’s connected to his parents. So that means that he’s treating me the way that he was treated. Which means: How can I change that for my own kids? And well, here I am. I’ve now moved my whole family to the US. Well, that wasn’t the plan.”
He concluded by: “Sometimes you’ve got to make decisions and put your family first and put your mental health first, and we’re not talking about mental health again on that spectrum piece like mental illness is at one end. Yeah, and then total joy and happiness is at the other.”
Many royal fans saw the comments made by Prince Harry as a low blow attack on his late grandfather.
Via social media, many called out Prince Harry for attempting to stain the legacy of Queen Elizabeth’s late husband, with one person saying: “Attack your dead grandfather, why don’t you. ??♀️?”
And another commenter pleaded with Prince Harry to move on, stop blaming his family for his mental issues and shortcomings.
The woman claimed: “Man, the hits just keep coming. I thought he “respected” his grandparents, but this trashes them as well. He wants to talk about parenting?!”
Prince William and Prince Harry are not speaking, and many predict this interview will further deteriorate their relationship that is hanging on by a thread.
