In a bizarre story, three women have been arrested in North Carolina on charges of running a fight club for elderly people with dementia.
The women — Marilyn McKey, Tonacia Tyson, and Taneshia Jordan — were reportedly involved with Danby House in Winston-Salem, an assisted living facility, where they exploited their positions for entertainment and possible gain.
Now, they are facing charges of assaulting individuals with disabilities and may have to face other charges as well.
Police are actively investigating the case and apparently have a lot to work with right now — which has been a worrying factor for many people following the developments around the situation.
Exact details remain unknown because authorities have been reluctant to reveal the full story. Still, there are rumors that the situation might have been quite gruesome at times, with some of the fights becoming very brutal.
McKey, Tyson, and Jordan were also seen in some of the videos getting violent with elderly patients.
One of the residents was being strangled while staff members were recording the nasty brawls and later sharing the video.
Some of the materials even made their way to social media, according to reports, but it is not clear if authorities have managed to recover them yet.
So far, though, it does look like they have plenty of information to work with regarding their suspects, and the community is hoping, the three will face proper justice in the coming weeks/months.
Some have voiced concern that the incident might be deeper than people even assume, with more people possibly being involved in the scandal.
However, it will take a while for that situation to clear up, and not much information will probably surface in the meantime.
A spokesperson for Danby House issued a statement to the media and revealed that all that the three women were fired in June after they caught wind of the scandal.
The statement read: “Danby House has a zero-tolerance policy for the mistreatment of those in our care. Administrators have been working closely with the Winston-Salem Police Department throughout its investigation to ensure justice is served. Additional staff training and a more rigorous vetting process for all new and existing employees at Danby House has been implemented.”
The case got a lot of reactions and the debate quickly got nasty, and some commenters brought up racial issues.
