Donald Trump is making moves to reset the race for president as Kamala Harris gets ready to accept the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
The first significant development is that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is expected to end his presidential run on Friday and endorse the Republican candidate.
If this deal between the two men goes through, Kennedy could land a cabinet role in a potential second Trump administration.
While the anti-vaccine activist was only polling in the single digit, his support could give Trump a 1-2 point boost in the critical seven battleground states.
This might not sound like much, but the race between Trump and Harris is very close. Depending on the election model, the candidate leading is only ahead by less than two points.
In recent statements, Kennedy has said that his primary goal, at this point, is to defeat the Democratic candidate.
With no path forward, especially after the exit of President Joe Biden from the race, Kennedy is doing what many expected him to do.
His candidacy has always had more support from Republicans than Democrats, and Trump seems to be betting heavily on this new support.
Trump’s second big move in the past twenty-four hours is backing down in his fight against Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
During a rally in Atlanta last month, Mr. Trump said: “Your numbers in Georgia are very average. You’ll do a lot better with a better governor.”
Harris’s entrance into the race has changed the outlook of the November election in Georgia. Many political experts said that before Biden dropped out, the Peach State was starting to slip away from the Democrats.
However, Harris is putting it back in play. The polls say that Trump is leading by just one point in the Sun Belt state.
With that information in mind, Trump is trying to make peace with the popular governor. Trump wrote this about Kemp: “Thank you to @BrianKempGA for all of your help and support in Georgia, where a win is so critical to the success of our Party and, most importantly, our Country. I look forward to working with you, your team, and all of my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Many observers say that Trump is backing down because he is afraid of losing Georgia. The fear forced the businessman to retreat humiliatingly.
While the race is still close, Harris appears to have some momentum.
