Dr. Anthony Fauci, a renowned immunologist, became a real star during the coronavirus pandemic, and not everyone is happy about it.
Dr. Fauci was named the lead member of the Donald Trump administration’s White House Coronavirus Task Force, and he often appeared in the daily briefings with other health experts and politicians to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
Fauci’s expertise and frank talk earned him praise from millions of people, including a long list of celebrities and high-profile politicians.
The physician, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984, has appeared virtually in countless shows and even landed on the cover of magazines.
While the medical figure has been flooded with accolades, he is getting slammed by Trump supporters in the media.
This week, FOX News’s Tucker Carlson dedicated an entire monologue to Fauci, who he blames for the mishandling of Covid-19.
In his rant, the TV host claimed that many of the restrictions and guidelines put in place by Fauci make it hard for Trump to relaunch the economy.
Carlson blames the doctor for the dire situation that millions of Americans are facing and added: “According to data collected last month, 12% of the American households in the richest country in the world are now routinely short on food. More than 20% of all renters in America are behind on payments. Keep in mind; these data were collected before federal unemployment benefits expired.”
Carlson exempted Republicans from all blame for the catastrophic situation. He bashed Fauci for becoming a celebrity and a buffoon who landed on the cover of InStyle magazine.
He insulted the health expert by saying: “Here’s Tony Fauci, the most political man in the most political city in America, telling you that going broke isn’t really a big deal. It’s inconvenient, says Dr. Fauci. Remember when you respected that guy? Remember when he seemed like a legitimate public health expert? We do, he was on this show, we treated him like a physician.”
Carlson continued by: “Now it’s clear Fauci is just another oily politician on an ego trip, just like the rest of them. In case you haven’t been to a supermarket recently, Fauci is featured on the cover of InStyle magazine, photographed by the pool. Man of science. What a buffoon.”
He concluded his rant by claiming that Fauci is “enjoying the hell” out of the pandemic.
Fauci appeared in a new interview where he addressed Carlson’s many criticisms by saying: “I’m not concerned about what he says. It’s a little bit — I think you could say that when he does that, it triggers some of the crazies in society to start threatening me, actually threatening, which actually happens.”
He went on to explain: “I mean, who would have [guessed] when I was in medical school doing things to save people’s lives, I’d have to be going around with a security detail? That’s really ridiculous.”
Trump’s rival for the presidency, Democrat Joe Biden, has said that he will keep Fauci on if he wins the November election.
