According to her friends, Meghan Markle is willing to forgive and move forward in the rift with the royal family, who said she thinks Prince Philip would have wanted to see “broken bridges mended.”
Following the Duke of Edinburgh‘s death — her husband Prince Harry‘s grandfather — last Friday at the age of 99, Meghan Markle believes the family should “unite as one,” her friends have said.
The extent of tensions between the Sussexes and other members of the royal family came to light last year when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals and moved to the US.
And more recently, they spoke in an exclusive televised interview with iconic TV host Oprah Winfrey, accusing the royal family of making racist remarks and failing to support Meghan Markle when she was pregnant and feeling suicidal in 2019.
However, now Meghan’s friends say she believes the family should “come together” during this difficult time and “put their differences aside.”
They added that she thinks Prince Philip would have wanted to see “broken bridges mended.”
One of Meghan Markle’s friends told the Daily Mail: “Meghan said it’s during these times when family should come together, put their differences aside and unite as one. She said this is what Prince Philip would want and that she’s willing to forgive and move forward.”
Another pal spoke to E! and explained that the former actress was hoping to attend the funeral and continued: “Meghan wishes she could have flown to the U.K. to support her husband but has been advised not to due to her pregnancy. She would have put all the family tension aside to be there with Harry.”
The source added that Harry and Meghan “are still not on amazing terms with the family.”
The person went on to say that Prince Harry did not want her flying to the U.K. to protect her health.
The insider shared: “Harry wants to make sure Meghan and the baby are healthy and not involved in stressful situations [such as Philip’s very public, televised funeral].”
Royal fans bashed Meghan for the stories being leaked by her friends. One person stated: “They don’t need her forgiveness. She is utterly delusional.”
Another fan of the royal family claimed: “Unbelievable!!!! OMG!!# No shame!”
This royal supporter explained: “Forgive THEM for what? You Egotistical. You have a grandiose sense of self-importance; it’s astonishing and quite frankly sickening ?. This time isn’t about you. It’s about the family and, more importantly, celebrating Philip’s life. You can’t stand being away from the action that you are busy sending your minions to write these ridiculous stories so that the attention you claim to not want is focused solely on you. You have NO class and have ZERO ideas of what being royal is, you self-absorbed woman.”
Meghan is expected to give birth to her second child around June.
