Khloé Kardashian is under fire for her latest announcement, but she appears unbothered by the harsh comments that she has been receiving.
This week, the reality TV star shared a post on Instagram that revealed some big news — she will be a judge for the brand’s Shein X 100K Challenge.
Shein is a well-known Chinese retailer that sells cheap apparel to more than 220 countries. The design competition will also feature celebrity stylist Law Roach and designer Christian Siriano.
Former J.Crew executive Jenna Lyons and InStyle style director Laurel Pantin are also part of the team.
The goal of the series is to follow 30 upcoming designers as they compete to win $100,000 and the opportunity to have their designs sold on the company’s website.
The creations will be part of Shein’s upcoming Fall/Winter 2021 virtual fashion show.
Khloé Kardashian happily announced her partnership with the company by saying: “I am so excited to have teamed up with @sheinofficial to judge the #SHEINx100Kchallenge. The SHEIN X Designer Incubator Program gives talented fashion designers the ability to design a collection for SHEIN that fashionistas will see all around the world!”
Fans were brutal with Kardashian for her decision to enter a partnership with a company that has a questionable reputation. SHEIN that makes billions of dollars annually is often slammed for stealing from independent designers.
Thousands of her followers bashed the Good American co-founder following the revelation that she will serve as a judge.
One backer had this to say on social media: “Considering she also steals from indie artists, this is the only judge that makes sense for this challenge. Call it what it is Shein a PR campaign to make you look like you care for upcoming designers ?.”
A second follower chimed in: “Shein is one of the most unethical fast fashion brands ?.”
Khloé Kardashian was attacked by this woman who made this point: “Hmmm I didn’t think you’d support a business that steals ideas from small creators also not to mention the horrible pay and work conditions their workers are provided. I thought better off you.”
Another female social media user lashed out, saying: “Lmaooooo Shein supporting designers?! All they do is rip off small independent designers to make fast fashion tat.”
A disappointed person shared: “Wow, how disappointing to see these people chose to work with a brand that is a huge contributor to the fast-fashion problem and further, a brand that copies and profits off of smaller designers.”
Some are wondering if Khloé Kardashian will respond to the controversy.
