Four months have gone by since the birth of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s second child and no decision about her upcoming christening has been announced, which led to a boatload of speculations.
Some royal sources spoke to the British media and explained that the power couple was adamant that they wanted a religious ceremony to take place in England with Queen Elizabeth II present.
However, high-place sources revealed that while the Queen had not commented on the matter, Prince William had put his foot down and said that baby Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor ‘s christening is not taking place in the U.K. because it is not the right time for it.
Others claimed that the powerful pair was not thrilled by how the royal family reacted to their formal request to the Queen and have started weighing the option to have the ceremony in California instead.
A source told the Daily Mail: “Harry and Meghan ‘will NOT bring Lilibet to be Christened in the Church of England and are likely to opt for an Episcopal ceremony in California instead.”
Fed up by all the chatter around what might or might not happen, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to address the matter head-on.
The spokesperson for the philanthropists told E! News: “Plans for the baby’s christening have not been finalized, and as such, any assumptions about what will or will not take place are mere speculation.”
A lot has been said about the christening of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s second child. Some reports claimed that Prince Harry was clear that he wanted the child to have the religious ceremony in London because he also wanted her to meet her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
It was also claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted their daughter to have the same royal baptism as her 2-year-old brother, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
However, a source previously told the Telegraph: “There will not be a christening in the U.K. It is not happening.”
Another palace insider added: “A U.K. christening was highly unlikely.”
NBC royal correspondent Neil Sean explained that Prince William is against Lilibet having her ceremony at St George’s Chapel and made his intention known.
The expert said: “But that came to a grinding halt. Both Harry and Meghan were very keen to make that return and make sure that christening happened, particularly in front of Her Majesty The Queen. Some people may say they’re just capitalizing on their royal connection, and why not? It’s how they make money now. But moving forward, there was one person who basically decided there wasn’t an appetite for this and the person that seemingly is, so far, not willing to kiss and make up with his younger brother.”
A spokesman for the Church of England has refused to comment on the christening drama.
