While fighting tears, Vivica A. Fox decided to share her honest and unfiltered opinion about the scandal caused by Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, and Chris Rock.
Will Smith, who was defending his wife’s honor, slapped Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards. The physical assault has been detrimental to Will Smith’s extraordinary career and reputation.
Smith has lost multiple million-dollar movie contracts with some big Hollywood studios and Netflix. The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has been banned from appearing at the Oscars for ten years.
This week, Jada Pinkett Smith decided to finally break her silence about her husband’s infamous slap during an episode of her successful talk show Red Table Talk.
On Thursday’s episode of The Wendy Williams show, Vivica A. Fox got very emotional as she revealed that what she had to say about the power couple was rather painful. Still, it was necessary to put it out there.
Vivica A. Fox softened the blow by saying that she worked with the Smiths on two projects that changed her life.
She opened her monologue by explaining the roles that Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have played in her Hollywood career.
She stated: “This is going to be difficult for me. These are my peers. I’ve done a movie with both of them. Set It Off with Jada and Independence Day with Will Smith, which absolutely changed my life. When I saw this video last night, it made me cry, I’ll be very honest with you guys.”
The actress, 57, said that she did not like Jada Pinkett Smith’s response to the high-profile incident because she failed to take “accountability” for her part.
Fox continued by saying: “I really felt to be a partner to Will Smith, whose career basically took a crumble that night. We were all rooting for Will Smith that night — Oscar night — we wanted him to win. Will Smith that night, as far as I was concerned, was going to be crowned this generation’s Sidney Poitier, which is a huge honor.”
After the shocking slap, Smith went on to win Best Actor for his performance in King Richard.
She went on to explain why the talk show host played a role in what occurred and should therefore take some of the blame and responsibility.
Vivica A. Fox also reminded the audience that Chris Rock was assaulted for joking about the actress’ shaved head. The actress has alopecia.
Fox claimed: “Will Smith was defending her honor; that’s the reason he walked on stage and slapped because he felt like his wife had been offended, so for me to see no accountability as a partner. Also, let’s not forget that Chris Rock was assaulted. We cannot forget that for basically telling a joke that I really felt wasn’t that bad.”
She continued: “Let’s not forget the show was executive produced by Will Packer, an African American man. This night was a night of African American and diversity for brown and black people. That now will forever be scarred.”
Fox concluded by saying that she hopes that the husband and wife will own up to their mistakes.
The filmmaker stated: “I have love for the Smiths. I know their children. I’ve watched them grow up. I just wish we could have just a little more accountability and for it to not seem so self-righteous on Jada’s part, and that’s my feelings.”
On Wednesday’s Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith addressed the now historical moment by directly saying: “About Oscar night. My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile. With the state of the world today, we need ’em both, and we all actually need one another more than ever.”
The mother of two shared: “Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years — and that’s [to] keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”
Smith has publicly apologized to Rock. It is not known if he has reached out privately to the comedian.
