Vice President JD Vance is seizing every given opportunity to deliver bloody and appetizing “red meat” to his base. The latest example is his blunt, mocking tone after a supposedly “fake” picture of himself and his wife, Usha Vance, went viral.
Donald Trump‘s right-hand man was quick to publicly dismiss the picture that fueled the viral rumors about his marriage facing challenges.
This week, a photo shared on Facebook by Thomas Clay Jr. showed the vice president, visibly upset and animatedly scolding the second lady, who looked down and appeared to cover her ears.
The post claimed: “Usha is a liberal. Always has been. Apparently, they were arguing loudly enough to quiet the restaurant. Why is he wearing a T-shirt?”
Vance, like his boss, jumped onto social media to shoot down the unverified post. He replied to the post on X, making a dry joke, saying: “I always wear an undershirt when I go out in public to have a loud fight with my wife.”
The Missing Ring Rumors
The change in the weather brought heavy winds of speculation and rumors about the state of Vance’s marriage.
It all began in October, after he hugged late Charlie Kirk‘s wife, Erika Kirk, during a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, on October 29th.
The awkward and “too close for comfort” hug was followed by another unsettling confession that he had asked Usha to convert from Hinduism to Catholicism, and she seemed to reject it.
Usha stepped out twice without her wedding ring, including to an event with First Lady Melania Trump. A spokesman for Usha stated that the lawyer and multimillionaire is forgetful and was focused on household chores: “Usha does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.”
JD and Usha Vance married in 2014 and have three young children.
Vance Dismisses The “Psycho” Speculation
In a recent NBC News interview, Vance said he and his wife find the rumors amusing. He described a time when Usha forgot her rings after showering as they hurried to the White House, and went on to mention the “psychos” who criticize her on social media.
He claimed: “She was like, ‘Oh, if I don’t go back and get them, there’s going to be some ridiculous psycho who talks about it on social media. And I was like, ‘Let them. It’s not even worth the trip to run back upstairs.’ So we actually have a little bit of fun with it. And we thought that whole viral social media cycle was kind of funny.”
Vance says their marriage remains strong, adding: “But our marriage is as strong as it’s ever been, and I think Usha’s really taken to it, and it’s been kind of cool to see how she’s developed and evolved in this new role.”
He admitted that media attention can be hard, saying: “There are certainly ways in which it’s difficult on the family … I’m not going to pretend that it isn’t. But it’s the sacrifice that we signed up for.”
The people Vance and his wife have been calling “psychopaths” have returned to social media to connect the dots and say it is odd that Usha started forgetting her ring after the too-comfortable hug, and that her husband publicly questioned her personal religious decision.
