Since stepping down from her royal duties, Meghan Markle has been forging her own path with her husband, Prince Harry, by her side, and by the looks of things, she is just getting started.
This week, Markle appeared to ruffle some feathers and gained the support and admiration of others with some of her actions.
Markle stepped deeper into the political game with a poignant interview and bold statement.
The high-profile member of the British royal family shared her thoughts on the Supreme Court’s controversial decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This landmark ruling established the right of a woman to get an abortion in 1973.
Markle shared her raw and honest opinion about the decision in an article published in Vogue.
The former actress and activist teamed up with feminist icon Gloria Steinem for the political commentary.
In the piece, Markle and Steinem agree it is time to visit Washington and apply pressure on the White House and Congress to get the ball moving.
Markle stated: “Well, Gloria, maybe it seems as though you and I will be taking a trip to [Washington] D.C. together soon.”
According to a royal expert and TV host, Meghan Markle’s potential political run is not “ludicrous,” and she has the ability to make “make a real difference.”
Lorraine Kelly sat down with Daily Mirror royal editor Russel Myers to talk about Markle’s dream of being in the highest office in the land.
The British morning show host stated: “[Meghan] and Prince Harry as well have been speaking about the abortion bans in many parts of the United States. And this is where she really, I think…comes into her own, and it raises that whole speculation over whether or not she’s going to go into politics.”
Myers responded by: “They’ve got their financial freedom, and they’ve got their essential freedom from the royal family, they can speak on political issues.”
The royal expert weighed in on Markle’s decision to make a trip to Washington D.C. with Steinham and Prince Harry by saying: “Does she have political ambitions? I do think she does, and she’s certainly rubbing shoulders with the right people and making the right noises. Sometimes, it might not seem so ludicrous that she might stand for office.”
Kelly confirmed that there is nothing ludicrous about Markle’s ambitious goal. She said: “I don’t think it’s ludicrous at all. She’s got things to say, and she’s got an astonishing platform, and she could make a real difference.”
Prince Harry’s wife is already enjoying the backing of the Biden family.
Recently, President Joe Biden‘s sister, Valerie Biden Owens, invited Markle to join the Democratic Party and stated that she has what it takes to become president.
The president’s advisor said: “It’s wonderful to have women in politics. The more women we have, the better our democratic system will work with a better point of view, a different point of view, and we embrace all women. We welcome [Meghan] to come in and join the Democratic Party.”
Markle has never linked herself to the Democratic Party, but her positions tend to be close to most mainstream liberals.
