During the trip to England to attend Platinum Jubilee, it was claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reached out to Queen Elizabeth II and asked her for a picture.
It was not any kind of photo — the renegade royals wanted the Queen to pose with her namesake great-grandaughter, Lilibet Diana.
Prince Harry and Markle’s daughter, born in California, celebrated her first birthday in England.
While many royals, including Kate Middleton and Prince William, were absent from the event — Queen Elizabeth, despite her health issues, made sure she was present for the child.
Many reports indicate that Prince Harry and Markle were accompanied by a photographer who was supposed to capture the precious moment of Lilibet meeting Her Majesty.
However, that did not happen. Queen Elizabeth declined to take the royal portrait with Lilibet because of her red eye or bloodshot eye.
The Queen is determined to protect her image and deemed such a photo would be undignified for public consumption.
Royal expert Camilla Tominey wrote in The Telegraph: “The couple had hoped to bring their own photographer to capture the first meeting between the sovereign, whose family nickname is Lilibet, and her great-granddaughter. However, the Queen personally intervened to prevent an official image being taken, apparently advising the couple that she had a bloodshot eye and did not want to feature in any pictures for public consumption.”
Royal pundit Neil Sean weighed in on the Queen’s decision not to be photographed with Lilibet and said it had caused great fear for Prince Harry and Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe that Lilibet will be “written out of royal history” as one of the only royal babies who were not photographed with the Queen.
He went on to add: “According to that good source, it appears that both Harry and Meghan feel that their daughter is going to be re-written out of history.”
Sources claimed that Prince Harry did suggest to his grandmother that the photo with Lilibet be taken at a later day, and she was not against it.
However, the royal commentator asked when are Sussexes returning to England? Will they get another opportunity for that precious photo?
He stated that the Queen’s must have been heartbreaking for Prince Harry and Markle. Sean went on to say because of the Queen’s age, they are right to worry that they will be able to give Lilibet another opportunity to be with Her Majesty.
He explained: “This is because if you think about it logically, when are they next going to return? When will the opportunity be there to have a formal portrait with our gracious monarch? And at 96 years old, they have to look logically at that. So will their daughter Lili ever truly get to meet her great-grandmother again?”
He continued: “The fact that they decided to release that picture of their daughter to the world was simply a kickback to say, ‘here she is, this is what you’re missing out on.”
Sean also called out Buckingham Palace because they “still refused to confirm, either way, whether there was a meeting or not” between the Queen and the Sussexes during the Jubilee weekend.
A source close to Prince Harry and Markle did reveal that on Page Six, the meeting did occur, and they did not ask for the photo because the aging Queen was not well.
